A night fire destroyed the 1
home of the Robert Golden fam- i
ily early last Friday morning, 1
when a furnace pipe became 1
overheated and set fire to the i
living room floor. Eight-year
old Debbie Golden roused the 1 1
family at 1 a.m. when smoke! ]
had already filled the house. |!
and Mrs. Ray M. Smith, who <
called the fire department and j <
took In some of the family for; ]
overnight. It was less than a <
year ago that both Mr. and ,
Mrs. Golden were injured in an j
automobile accident, which nec-' j
essitated lengthy hospitalization 1 1
for Mrs. Golden. She has only 11
recently been able to resume 1
her usual activities. With the : t
Golden family were living two i
married daughters with their j i
children, making seventeen I
young children in the house.
Mrs. Smith cared for seven over- !
night; the other family mem- <
bers went to the homes of rela- ]
tives in the county. Temporary
shelter is being arranged for.
but the family will be needing 1
other essentials in the weeks to i (
come, particularly clothing and j i
food. If anyone wishes to con- .

per Montgomery County met on
Wednesday afterpoon, January 1
17, at the Neelsville Presbyter- j 1
ian Church, with three state rep- i
resentatives from Baltimore. ;
Colorful Inspiration for the
Spring flower show was the
order of the day when the Mon
ocacy Garden Club held its Jan
uary meeting at the home of
Mrs. Herbert Brown in Pooles
ville.
Planning to use as its theme
for the show arrangements in
spired by paintings, the mem
bership was treated to a wide
display of floral art created by
well-known as well as lesser
known painters in an informal
speech by the newly-elected
president, Mrs. Leon Loeb,
Wellcome Farms, Urbana.
The show committee hopes to
attract area painters to exhibit
their work in conjunction with
the flower show, which will be
held in the Poolesville High
School May 5. Details of the
competition may be obtained
through Mrs. Kenneth H. Endi
cott, Dickerson, chairman of
the flower show.
The executive board for 1962
is composed of the following

The purpose of the meeting was
to decide whether or not to con
tinue the local organization, and
to learn how the group can
function more in accord with
the national set-up. Local pres
ident, Mrs. C. A. Watkins, jr.,
was in charge, and presented
the state representatives, Mrs.
Milton C. Lang, president of
Maryland United Church Wom
en; Mrs. Samuel M. Kent, Lead
ership Education chairman;
Mrs. E. Lester Keyser, State
chairman World Day of Prayer.
After helpful talks on the pur
pose and function of the local
group, it was decided to con
tinue. Miss Connie Field was
named local chairman of the
World Day of Prayer commit
tee. This service will be held
at the Asbury Methodist Home
on March 9.

on January 8, were Mr. and
Mrs. C. Staley Weller.

Darnestown Presbyterian
Church met on Thursday. Jan- i
uary 11, at the home of Mrs.
John Andrews, sr. Devotions
were led by Mrs. Guy Hough.
Mrs. Andrews, who is circle
leader, presided, and also pre
sented the Bible study in Rom
ans.

tained the members of the Aft
ernoon Circle of the Neelsville
Presbyterian Church on Thurs
day, January 18. Mrs. Ward
W. Fetrow assumed her duties
as circle leader, and also led
the Bible study, the first lesson
in Paul’s Letter to the Romans.
There were twelve members
present, including two guests,
Mrs. William Birgfeld and Mrs.
Martha Cross.

book review at the meeting of

signs which will be placed in
four different highway loca
tions. It was agreed to invite

on February 20, at which time
a film on the life of Albert
Schweitzer will be shown.

the Beallsville Fire House. So
count your calories until Shrove
Tuesday, March 6, at which I

On March 28 the same group
will hold its semi-annual hat
show also at the Fire House.
The line will include such acces
sories as jewelry, gloves,
purses, umbrellas, boots, rain
coats. etc. At the same time
some lucky winner will receive
a SSO gift certificate from a
dress shop which will be re
vealed later. These plans were

Family Series Concert
The Montgomery County!
Youth Symphony Orchestra will
present a concert at 3 p.m. on
January 28 at Montgomery
County Jewish Community,
2901 East-West hwy., Chevy
Chase. The event is part of the
Sunday afternoon Family Series i
sponsored by the MCJC Sister-j
hood. Admission is 25 cents.

William H. Snyder and Gerald

14, as the result of burns suf
fered in a fire in his home.

The Rev. Philip J. Lee and
his family moved into the manse
of the Boyds Presbyterian
Church on Friday, January 12.
Newly called to serve the Boyds
Church, the Rev. Mr. Lee was
accepted by the Presbytery of
Washington City at its meeting
on January 9 at the New York '
ave. Church, Washington. His
first service was a Communion
I service on January 14.
A service of installation for
Mr. Lee will be held at the
Boyds Church on Sunday eve
ning. January 28, at 7:30 p.m. j
Mr. Lee is married to the for
mer Roberta Williams of Rich- j
j mond, Va., and they have a
daughter, “Sadie,” nearly two
' years old.
Prior to their arrival, the lad- j
ies of the Church had redecorat- j
ed the manse and held a pantry
! shower to stock the kitchen
5 shelves.
Mr. Lee succeeds the Rev.
James P. Kerr, now pastor
emeritus, who served the Boyds
church for 31 years before his
retirement in June 1960. Mr.!
and Mrs. Kerr and their two
daughters now live in Walnut
Hill, Gaithersburg.
