Montgomery Blair could

Thursday the Blazers take on

In Waiter Johnson the Blaz

Against this the Blazers stack

Swiek grants that Blair has a
good club, with better height
than his own in Townsend and
Wendt. But he says WJ has bet
ter overall height and shoots a
little better. WJ has six good
shooters and four boys (Dean
Kilpatrick, Dave Yates, Buddy
Borror, Clint Newby) who have
hit around 20 points at differ
ent times.
Statistics bear him out. Wal
ter Johnson is the top offensive
team in the conference with a
67.7 points a game average.
Blair's average is 10 points low
er. However, Blair is tops in de
fense allowing ony 36 points a
game while WJ is sixth in the
league in that department with
a 59 points given up average.
Wheaton is the only team
that has beaten Walter John
son. The Knights stopped the
Spartans, 72-63, at Wheaton
early in the year. Wheaton’s
only losses are to Mackin and

In the struggle for team championship and the
honor, money and trophies which accompany it, individ
ual performances are sometimes overlooked unless they
are new records. Nevertheless, a real thrill comes to the
bowler who tops all his previous sets, even though the
score be modest.
Recently Jack Stiegelmeyer
of the Naval Operations League
at Skor-Mor shot a perfect
game, becoming one of the few
here to hit 300. Harry Love
land of the Moon Palace team
in the Friday Mix-ups at Con
gressional seemed well on his
way to joining the select club
of “perfect” bowlers until one
ball got away and he had to
settle for a 275. Harry's next
game was a respectable 187,
but trouble set in as the eve
ning progressed and he missed
a 600 set by one pin.
Harry’s score is well out in
front as high game for the
league and will qualify him for
the first award pin from the
Men's City Tenpin Association
to be won by a member of this
league in two years. Mean
while, Betty Foster became the
most recent of the ladies to re
ceive a pin for an outstanding
game.
Jack Scales of second place
Hickory Farms holds high av
erage for the Friday Mix-ups,
but this did not protect him
last week. His teammates
stuck him for . “beer frame”
not once, but twice in a row,
as all of them doubled.
Other recent individual per
formances a t Congressional
have included a 686 by Al Rob
erts in the Monday Men’s Com
mercial and a 682 by Sam
Pusateri when the MWBPA
Minor Traveling League bowled
there.
In the Coca Cola Major at
Wheaton Triangle, first place
to Blair, 75-46, also before
Christmas.
The Knights have won six in
a row since losing to Mackin in
the last week of December.
They downed Bethesda-Chevy
Chase 59-56 last time out. The
Wheaton team has more height
than Walter Johnson and has
the second best offensive aver- ,
age (63.3), but again gives up
a lot of points than do the
Blazers.
The Knights don’t have much
of an advantage in playing
Blair the night after the Red
meets WJ. Wheaton plays

eyes painted blue and some in
purple. We kinda watched all
these other folks to see how we
should act and the first thing we
learned is that you're supposed
to say something mean to the
haleheek girl or the waiter, or
better yet insult both of them.
Like this one big fat fella and
this movie star sitting at the
next table. He orders up a
whole mess of some kind of lit
tle bits of meat and gravy and
he polishes it off in nothing
flat. I know he enjoyed it be
cause I heard him tell his movie
star how good it was. When he
had eaten all but a little, he
calls the waiter over and really
bawls the poor fella out. He
said the stuff was terrible and
for the waiter to take it away.
There wasn’t much left to take
away but the waiter did as he
was told.
Next we decided to go to a
stage show. This turned out to
be some pretty young ladies arid
a bunch of fellas acting up a
storm, and ail of them eussin’
their fool heads off. I’ve seen
better stories on TV, and heard
better eussin’ ala family re
union.
That about did it. We went
to the boat show and picked up
a few new ideas, so the trip
was useful. I’m sure New York
