Maurice Tal bott Riggs, well-known Rock ville athlete and educator who died Saturday. He was 62. Services were held at Christ Episcopal Church in Rockville and burial was in Arlington National Cemetery. Mr. Riggs was a son of the late Benjamin and Estelle Tal bott Riggs. After both parents died in 1905, he was reared in the West Montgomery’ ave. home of his grandfather, H. Maurice Talbott, lawyer and political leader. Following graduation from the old Rockville Academy and the Charlotte Hall Military Academy, Mr. Riggs attended the University of Maryland, where he was graduated in 1920. He received a lieutenant’s de gree from Officer’s Candidate School in 1918. shortly before the end of World War I. After his graduation from the University of Maryland, he signed with the Washington Senator baseball team and played six years for Suffolk, Va.. of the Virginia League. In Suffolk, he taught and coached in the city's schools. He was then named head coach at St. John’s College in Annapolis, where he coached until the mid-1930'5. He was one of the organizers of the Mason-Dixon Conference for small colleges. He returned again to Montgomery County in 1954 * as student counselor at Rock ville Junior High, moved to i Broome Junior High when it I opened and then to Richard ' Montgomery High in 1960. ' He was married to the for mer Dorothy May Cutler in 1942. She survives, along with five cousins, Dr. William W. 1 Welsh of Gabbs, Nev., and Bar nard T.
