Sherwood Band Concert Slated The Sherwood High School Band Spring concert will be held Friday and Saturday in the Sherwood gymnasium, Sandy Spring, at 8 p.m., with Bruno Lasko directing. Selections will range from classical through popular. The feature number is the Gersh win “Rhapsody in Blue” with David Dingebach as piano solo ist. The "Blue and Gray” Civil War Suite, a "Night at the Bal let” and the Sibelius “Fin landia" will also be presented. Sherwood's Majorettes, the "Robin Hoods,” will perform a military and dance routine. The "Concert Digest” (a musical sa tire* will be narrated by Tom Clark. Rev. Wayne Harting, of But ler, N. J„ will be the main spaker on the theme of the Convention “Christians What Are They?” on Friday evening, and the theme will be discussed from many angles during the sessions Saturday morning and afternoon. The convention will close with a banquet at 5 p.m., Saturday. Registration fee, which covers all meals and lodging on Fri day night is $1.50. Local youth are invited to attend. Rev. Christian Science Lecture Planned How spiritual understanding of God restores health and har mony will be the subject of a lecture on Christian Science by Mrs. Gertrude E. Linthicum Planning for the year 2000 ts not a far-fetched idea according to Mrs. James V. Bennett, Be thesda, of the Montgomery County League of Women Vot ers. She addressed members of the Dawsonville Women's Club at the home of Mrs. J. Hunter Pugh in Barnesville, Thursday. Mrs. Bennett spoke of plans for the future drawn up by the Cit izens’ Planning Association. Their plan for the turn of the century would be achieved by building corridors for rapid transit running out of the Cao ital. The transit stops should de velop into cities which would be separated from each other by open spaces for conservation purposes. To supplement the in teresting talk on planning in the metropolitan area including Up per Montgomery County maps from the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission were shown. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. John F. Windolph, jr., Dawsonville. John Colllson White, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Marshall White, near Barnesville, visited his parents over the Easter weekend from Geneva College at Beaver Falls, Pa. He was ac companied by Miss Janet Siek afoose of New Castle, Pa., who is also a student at Geneva. There was a May pole, and the children of Mrs. Gladys Best's fifth grade danced about it. And there was a May Queen. Ella Potter, who was crowned by Dr. Herman Wilson. Miss Potter is 92. This wonderful pageant was at the Asbury home. Mozart’s “Magic Flute” is coming along well at the Junior High School. Mrs. Jack Sala manaca is helping with the dra matic content. The home arts department is working in cos tume production. Sharon Sny der and Barbara Whipp are ac tive here. Reed Spears and Jeff Smith are working on lighting. Ed Washington and the Rev. Harry Dalzell are with set re production. The Mozart opera was adapted for young voices by Michael Kelly and Don Doughty of the Music Depart ment, from the Mozart wore. Rockville Youth Qualifies for 3 U.S. Academies Justice M. “Mike” Chambers, jr., 140 South Adams st„ Rock ville, has been notified of his acceptance by all three U, S. service academies, and has elected to enter the U. S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, with the intention of joining the U. S. Marine Corps upon graduation. “Mike” is following closely in the footsteps of his brother, John, who will graduate from the U. S. Naval Academy In June, and has been commis sioned In the Marine Corps. Their father. Justice M. “Joe” Chambers is a holder of the nation’s highest military decora tions, having seen combat with the Marine Corps in World War 11, retiring as a result of wounds received in action as a Colonel in 1946. He received among other decorations three Purple Hearts, the Silver Star, Legion of Merit and Congres sional Medal of Honor.
