IN THE CIRCUIT COURT
FOR MONTGOMERY
COUNTY, MARYLAND
Sitting as a Court of Equity
Equity No. 25670
In the Matter of the Aban
donment of a portion of
Kemp Mill Road adjacent to I
and east of Tri-Suburban I
Broadcasting property, and
all of “Sedgewood Road,” 5
as shown on a plat record- (
ed in Plat Book 31 at Plat
1965 among the Land Rec
ords of Montgomery Coun
ty, Maryland.
Order of Publication <
This is to give notice that on '
the 12th day of July, 1962 a j
Petition for Abandonment was
filed in the Circuit Court for |
Montgomery County, Maryland j
by the Tri-Suburban Broadcast- i
ing Company, a corporation. (
The Petition alleges in sub- ,
stance that the petitioner is the j
owner of land west of Kemp (
Mill Road shown on a plat re- j
corded in Plat Book 31, Plat j
1965 copy of which is filed with
the Petition; that at the time of
dedication of the land shown on
the plat it was thought that a 1
larger area would be required ‘
for widening Kemp Mill Road J
than was in fact required, and *
further than an area entitled
“Sedgewood Road” was dedicat
ed but has never been opened or
used as a public highway; that
a portion of the area so dedi
cated for the widening of Kemp
Mill Road has been found by
the Dep a r tment of Public
Works of Montgomery County,
Maryland not to be required,
and it has also been found that
Sedgewood Road is not needed
for any public purpose; that it
is understood that Montgomery
County, Maryland, The Mary
land National Capital Park and
Planning Commission and the
Washington Suburban Sanitary
Commission will consent to the
abandonment of a portion of
Kemp Mill Road containing
2265 square feet and the area
shown as Sedgewood Road con
taining 0.6655 acres; that peti- i
tioner has granted Montgomery
County a 10 foot easement for
storm drainage purposes which
will be retained; that a 40 foot
right of way has heretofore
been granted Washington Sub
urban Sanitary Commission for
water line crossing Sedgewood
Road and said easement will re
main unaffected.
The relief prayed in the Peti
tion is substantially that the
portion of Kemp Mill Road as
so dedicated containing 2265
square feet and Sedgewood
Road containing 0.6655 acres as
shown on said subdivision plat
recorded in Plat Book 31 at Plat
1965 be abandoned.
Whereupon, it is by the Cir
cuit Court for Montgomery j
Couny, Maryland, Sitting as a
Court of Equity, this 12th day
of July, 1962.
ORDERED, that the petition
er cause a copy of this Order
to be inserted in a newspaper
published in Montgomery Coun
ty, once a week in each of four
successive weeks before the
13th day of August, 1962 giving
notice to all parties who may be
interested or affected by said
proposed abandonment by the
object and substance of the Peti
tion and warning him or them
to show cause if any there may
be on or before the 13th day of
August, 1962 why a decree
should not be passed as prayed.

John J. Hughes, is a citizen of i
the United States and his last J

The Bill further alleges that
the plaintiff and defendant were
married on May 19, 1956, and
that out of this union two chil
dren were born, namely: John

CrDav Due
In County
Invasion
Invasion of Montgomery
County is due any moment . .
When it oacurs, the peace and
calm of the countryside will be
split asunder; balmy nights and
humid days will be veritable
nightmares . . . filled with the
“shrill cries” of the male and
the "penetrating screams of the
more deadly female.”
In short, this is the year of
the 17-year locust, known in
more scientific circles as “the
cicada.”
It was back in ’45 when Mont
gomery Countlans last heard, in
volume, the shrill cadence of
the cicada bent on courting and
kindred activities designed to
end in ant-like broods that go
underground to feed for 13 to
17 year on tree roots . . . only
to emerge to do what their
parents did before them.
What’s fun for the locusts,
however, is not fun for owners
of shade, fruit and ornamental
trees. The screaming, more
deadly than the male, lady ci
cada has a special knife-like
organ which she uses for slit
ting twigs on anyone’s trees.
She lays her eggs in the slits.
Six weeks later the eggs
hatch and the brood gets under
ground in a hurry. The under
ground feeding is not as danger
ous as the twig splitting. Tree
experts say egg splits rarely
heal and end up harboring other
insects or wood-rotting fungi.
The United States Depart
ment of Agriculture recom
mends an insecticide called
“Sevin.” The trick to control
ing the invasion is to catch the
male, figuratively speaking,
seven days after he begins to
“cry” and end his romantic ten
dencies with a spray gun.
Small Seeks More
Police for Traffic
Throughout State
Frank Small jr., Republican
gubernatorial candidate, called
recently for a larger police
force and more stringent pun
ishment of traffic violators to
curtail traffic fatalities.
Calling Mar yland's traffic
safety program “excellent,”
Small cautioned against com
placency. "The State Troopers
are doing a fine job,” he said,
“but our increasing death count
proves that the force must be
expanded.”
Small, former commissioner
of motor vehicles, went on to
say, “It’s very discouraging for
a conscientious law enforce
ment officer to bring traffic
violators to justice only to see
them let off with insignificant
fines. The courts must realize
their ability and responsibility
for deterring traffic violators.”
