Many New Laws Enacted J (Continued From l’as;e One) j < was extended to cover the entire 1 county—a move to ease water 1 line extensions to areas where pollution of wells by private , sewer systems is a problem. - “The Republican members of the House delegation and I would be derelict in our duty if we did not take immediate steps to see that no citizen of Montgomery County is denied wholesome, potable water if it is within the physical power of the WSC to do so. He said the bill was passed to correct “shameful conditions which the Democrats allowed to exist in the Potomac area and other sections of the county.” Sen. Glide’s bill, which he had said was much needed, to outlaw bottle clubs in the coun ty, passed the State Senate but died in the House of Delegates. Also, two ex officio members without a vote the county liquor dispensary system direc tor and a representative of the county’s financial advisory com mittee. A move pushed by county planners to remove planning jurisdiction from land annexed In the future by cities and towns In Montgomery County, failed. Also unsuccessful was a bill sponsored by Sen. Gude which would have removed the farm preferential assessment tax benefit from land that was zoned to higher density such as apartment, commercial or in dustrial. Also enacted were bills which would: • Authorize the County Coun cil to set speed limits on county roads.
