Presbyterian Church Backs Anti Bias Law St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church of Rockville has joined other area organizations in op posing exemption of taverns and bars from the county’s public accommodations ordi nance. In a resolution adopted unani mously by the Church Session and sent to the County Coun cil, the Presbyterians not only called for retention of the exist ing law, but urged that it be “strengthened” by removal of the section exempting places en gaged primarly in the sale of alcoholic beverages. Adopted in response to the council’s plans for a public hear ing April 24 on Councilman John Henry Hiser’s proposal to rescind the law, the church termed the measure “a neces sary and desirable expression of public conscience and senti ment.” Repeal of the measure, the resolution declared, “would be unwarranted and is likely to promote discrimination against Negroes and other minority groups.” It urged the county to retain the law and “to strength en it by deleting the exemption found in Section 2 which relates to taverns and bars.” The April 24 hearing will be j held in the gymnasium of Richard Montgomery High School beginning at 8 p.m. JAttend services this week at uour own place of worship m WILCOMS WAGON EX. 3-7556 SENTINEL SSESSTSSr Thursday, April 11, 1963 Workshop Set On Juvenile Delinquency One of four regional work shops for police sponsored by the State Department of Public Welfare has been scheduled next Wednesday at the County Office Building in Rockville. Polk Co. of Detroit, which . is compiling a Rockville “city j directory.” Scheiber said last week that 1 the city has no connection with j the directory, or the Polk firm’s | efforts to compile it. He said the city has gotten numerous inquiries about the directory from residents. I ——■■■■ ■ three-fourths of them are girls who have proved there is no justification for terming them members of the “weaker sex” when it comes to cleaning cars, he added. All of thd washers and waxers are supervised by adult drivers who take them to and from the homes of the customers, Doty said. Persons who are interested in obtaining the service are in vited to call the youth director at his home, JU. 8-4325.
