After a weeks delay while Ron Rhodes recovered from a bout with the flu, Borchers pulled out the area scholastic championship with a 3 and 1 victory over Rhodes Sunday at Columbia Country Club. Rhodes, prominent for his long drives off the tee, feared that his game would still show effects of the flu bug that cur tailed his activities for a full Tri-County (Continued From B-2) catcher Bing Miller garnered four hits and a walk in five at bats. Taylor Flye homered for the Inners. The only other game will find Bowie and Buffalo squaring off. Bowie was paced in a winning cause last week by Steve Clay ton. He hit a double and triple. Montgomery Avenue Rockville, Maryland week. He had gained the finals ; with a victory over Wheaton’s , Bob Haley despite the symp toms of flu. Sunday the two golfers play ed even over the first eight holes, Borchers gaining a one up lead on the ninth. Spectacu lar golf was absent as Borchers turned with a 40, one stroke better than Rhodes. What happened on the next three holes would have been enough to discourage the best of golfers. Borchers three put ted each green and fell back by two holes. Borchers looked at the bright and sunny skies, skies that were to have produced rain if one pays attention to such things as weather forecasts, and was in spired to a string of golf that ended the match on the seven ' teenth green. The Peary high school junior put his drive on the green on the 13th and chipped to the pin on his third shot at the next green to pull even. With this momentum and obivously straining opponent, Borchers i pulled ahead on the fifteenth i with a long put for par and went two up with two to play at sixteen. Rhodes’ drive on the seven teenth fell at the base of a slope leading up to the green. Borch ers was longer but far to the left and it appeared that Rhodes chances of gaining an extra hole of play was good. Those chances went fast on the next two shots as Rhodes blew his chip shots and failed to reach the green. Borchers’ chip fell three feet from the ! pin and Rhodes conceded the j match.
