CHURCH GOALS TOLD
Opportunities and problems
facing. Maryland's Protestant
churches were explored this
week at a meeting of the Town
and Country Department of the
Maryland Council of Churches
at the Pleasant Hill Methodist
Church, Owlngs Mills under the
direction of department chair
man, Rev. Gene R. Perry, who
was also the host pastor.
Out of the meeting came dis
cussion of problems in areas of
less than 10,000 population.
Many pastors feel, it was point
ed out, they are ministering to
a parade of people who constant
ly ‘‘move in and out of the com
munity.'’ In such an area it is
hard to make a spiritual Impact
on the lives of people.
In spite of the general short
age of pastors in the United
States, it was found that in the
town and country areas of
Maryland there are few con
gregations without pastors to
day, although some denomina
tions have had to utilize stu
dents and retired men to fill
some pastorates.
