CORAL ROCKETS By L. P. ARTMAN. JR. ROBERTS RIBBED , Here’s a note from Albert Rob- 1 ert.s “I have received some jolly' good ribbing from your excellent article in the Rockets about aj political castoff advising thej ministers about the blue laws. I 6aid to the ribbcrs that if it was! me the shoe had to fit. but I, never advised anybody and criti-1 cited only to arouse public inter-1 c*t. . . Keep up the good work] because what you are doing is what we sorely need in Key ( West unbiased opinion and: equal praise and criticism for, all.” • • UT NOT ROBERTS What of course is the trouble ] in not being able to name names,l everyone thinks it is he who is meant because of some similari-, ties in articles. Asa matter of, fact the person referred to in the, article was not Roberts. • • GAMBLING MIDDLE COURSE Sounding here and sounding there and sometimes dropping | the lead on shallow spots and | sometimes dropping the lead in | Breat depths, it appears now that! ic course which is going to be followed about .liquorand gambl-, ing will be the middle' Course. Al- ; though at first there were threats, about complete wipeout of these, groups, these as all thought i were merely threats and not real action. It seems that the major ity of persons wish these two, forms of entertainment and they will be available again. However j one important point is that things! will he cleaned up a great deal.] U is something which should! have been done a long time ago. \ The sailor boys complain when' the main street is composed of just bars “more bars per blockj than in many cities”, the local: people who wish to take a drink; don’t feel too much like frequent- j ing bars which are noisy and' roisterous and which allow over! drinking and young kids to be present. • • NOT TEMPORARY, DRIVE , j Now there is one thing about bar operators here which must be noted. Apparently they be lieve this is just a “reformist*’ wave but believe me this cleanup drive is something which has come to stay. This column lias been advocating liberal liquor PEARLMAN’S, Inc. Following about a month of experimentation with the new press, I hope to have the first editions of Key West’s Sunday picture paper off the press by say May 1. A num ber of photographers have been secured to service the paper with spot news and features and scores of pictures have been filed away already. Also old historical etchings and prints are being documented now for glimpses back into Key West’s colorful pqgt. It is quite possible that this st|jdav newspaper may be ex tended to cover the entire Flor ida Keys ' including Marathon and Tavernier > under present! plans, But first of we’ne gpingi to take care of Key West. j i • • BUSINESSMEN ASSOCIATION ACTIVE Latest scuttlebutt is that the Business Men’s Association is be coming strongly active and that a Business Woman’s Association will also be formed. Song of the Wind! • • OLD ROAD POPULAR The old road up the Keys is getting to be quite popular. This old road goes from Boca Chica to Pirates Cove where it cuts into Eddie’s Fish Basket and the main highway. At Perky there is a road going off to the right which saves going up to Pirates Cove and is a good cutback. There are only four bridges in this area and all in pretty good shape, the Tarpon Creek Bridge, Suearloaf Creek Bridge, Sugar loaf Channel Bridge but of course the Boca Chica Bridge s3' Pft • v , CWY * tisysyiL# % MfUi iVlm ■Bl 1 it U' wl' 1 1 mmm \ Hlr'PSlwVSv pi ** J \ , mjr PEOPLE’S FORUM The Cltlaen welcome* expre*- Nionit of the view* of It* read er*. hut the editor re*erve* the rijeht to delete any Item* which nre considered lihekoua or unwar ranted. "WHITE AS SNOW" Editor, The Citizen: Today we should feel like the sinner who goes to the altar rail] and receives absolution for our j city is once more washed as white, as snow and all our scarlet sins' are washed away. The public charge of graft has been vindicat-j ed, but has the Grand Jury re-j stored public confidence in other; matters by not having time to ■ which has been blocked off is j unsafe. This part of the highway! is quite scenic in spots and is right alongside the water. There is good fishing nearby. Plug cast-! ers espeeially enjoy this stretch] of the Keys. Wild birds are com-1 ing in in great flocks now that 1 cars travel the road mostly on] Sundays. At Dead Man’s Curve' “poorjoes” so named because] spongermen found little meat on; them, blue heron, great white heron and scores of snipe fre-! quent the trees which were once; in the middle of a swamp. • TiSfij CONCHOLOGISTS T ] - Notice out at the foot of White- 1 head Street on the Ocean side that the colored boys are out with ] conch shells scrubbing them! With brushes and selling them to tourists again. There are many ] fine shell curio shops in town 1 which cater to the tourists. This brapeh of Conchology, and it really is spelt Conchology, is] most appealing here. Amateur collectors will find a wealth of material on beaches and in rocky spots up the Keys. • • HUMOROUS BROADSIDE Now the Cubans are mighty fine people but just as Americans are the object of smiles when they attempt to speak Spanish in Havana so Cubans in some of their printed circulars to Ameri can Tour .Agencies, are quite humorous. Howes about con ditions in Monroe County as out lined in his letter to the Grand Jury. Can you or I call the Grand Jury when we feel that we have been the victims of circumstance; or can any lawyer call the Grand! Jury or must it be a judge. I do! not know and I would like to have a public answer because ; these men are paid from taxes received into the Coffers of Mon roe County from the taxpayers pocket. Why all the about Rev. If some citi zen had the power to see that the Grand Jury was called why did not the Circuit Judge see to it that the charges brought by the letter of Rev.
