The Key Club, the Keyettes, the Junior Debs and the Nu Phi Mu all have school and community service projects that would put some of us old folks to shame, and these are just a few of the school organizations that really pitch and help make this old Rock a better place to live. VFW Ladies Honor Guests At Buffet Supper VFW Auxiliary held a buffet sup per recently in honor of district president Lee Sanders. Among out-of-town guests were district commander Harold Meiyer, past president of the Hollywood Auxiliary Carolyn Zinkle, president of the Hollywood Auxiliary Grace Ronley and Evelyn Dyer who is also from Hollywood. A business meeting preceded the supper at which time plans were completed for a Christmas party for crippled children as well as children of post members. It will be held on December 20th and there will be gifts for all from Santa. Taylor Given By Surface Development Group Is Next Event On Holiday Calendar , Christmas festivities among Navy circles will include a large dinner dance to be given at Fort Taylor on Saturday, December 19th by the Surface Development Group Officers’ wives. It will be a large affair and wi 11 include high ranking guests and their ladies as well as many townspeople who work with the naval units in a civilian capacity who may care to attend. , Among prominent names on the* guest list are Capt. A. O. Momm. . USN, Commanding Officer SurAs- DevDet, and Mrs. Momm, Capt. William Maddox, USN. Command ing Officer Des Div, and Mrs. Mad dox, Cmdr. J. E. Wheeler, USN, Commanding Officer NOU, and Mrs. -Wheeler, Cmdr. R. M. Far rell, USN, Commanding Officer AUW, and Mrs. Farrell and Cmdr. H. G. Leahy, USN, Commanding Officer MinEvDet, and Mrs. Leahy. Dance chairman, Mrs. B. V. A jemian, whose husband is attached to SurAsDevDet, has named her committee in charge of decorations' which includes the Mesdames W. J. Flannery, M. M. Young and John Tillotson who will be assisted the Mesdames R. H. Robeson, J. E. Tanner and J. R. Collins. Decorations, which have not been completed, wUI follow a Christmas theme, and the menu, chosen by Mrs. Ajemian with the aid of Lt. Cmdr. Lovejoy, USN, and Mrs. Lovejoy will feature the traditional roast beef entree. Cocktails will be served from six o’clock, and the buffet dinner 'will be at seven with dancing be- ginning at nine. i It will be a gay party with In formal dress in the way of smart cocktail and dinner frocks. High School PTA To Hear Xmas Program The regular month!v meeting of the Key West High School PTA will be at 7:30 Tuesday night in the high school auditorium. Pre siding will be the high school PTA president. Mrs. Merville Rosam. Following the business meeting, the program will be in charge of Mr. Thomas Whitley, director of choral music at the high school. He will present not only his large mixed chorus, but also anew org anization. the girls’ Glee Club. These groups will present a pro gram of Christmas music which will also be featured at their ves per performances later in the week. Featured will be “Gloria Patri, ’ several carols, and “Jesu Bam bino,” the latter with George Las tres as soloist. Asa special fea ture. Miguel Mahscal will present the Myra Hess piano arrangement of Bach’s Jesu Joy of Man's De siring. The full chorus will end the program with the finale to the Christmas Cantata by Ringwald. First topic on the agenda was the Christmas party to be held for early people at the County Home on Monday, December 14th at 7 p. m. All members are asked to attend that event which is under the direction of chairman Mrs. Lino Castro. Gifts will be distributed and re freshments served. The JayShees have been entertaining people at the County Home for over a year at regular intervals, and they have enjoyed these events as much ss the ones for whom the parties are given. Plans were completed for anoth er Christmas party at which the JayShees will be hostesses to all JayCees and their wives. Invita tions for the affair are now in the mails. Mrs. Ilacqua appointed a com mittee to choose a young man from the community to be the re i cipient of the Jay Slices’ annual Distinguished Service Award. Plans for the future included a spring fashion show and dance dur ing the first week of March. After the holidays there will be commit tees appointed for that event. At the meeting anew member, Mrs. Helio Garcia, was welcomed, and Mrs. Joe Pinder, program chairmn, gave a talk on Christmas decorations. There were lovely cen terpieces, wreathes and door dec orations made by Mrs. Pinder and other club members. Wed. evening, Dec. 16 at 9:30 at NCCS-USO Clubhouse, will have as; its opening number “Mr. Cotton) Picker” with Rose Yates, Kaf Haviland, Ruth Kearns, Patti Chap-, man and Glenda Killgallon. “Gypsy Aires” will be a solo by little Susan Wolfson. while "Ballet Moderne” will be given by Sandra Owens. A waltz clog will be presented by Andrea Coniff, Ruth Maziau, Rhonda Schafner, Stuart Brenner, Pearl Sosin, Charlotte Kearns, Margaret Morales and Shelia Gardner. “Ballet Classique” will be by Glenda Killgallon, and there will follow a series of solo dances by Rose Yates, Patti Chapman, Caro lyn Case and Gale Varela. | A ballet samba by Lorraine But ler and Gerry Pinder will be fol lowed by the concluding number, a military tap, by Rose Yates, Glenda Kilgallon. Kay Havilahd, Ruth Kearns and Patti Chapman. The revue will be presented for service personnel, and their guests and will be the first of several planned programs during the holi day season. In addition to the revue, there will be dancing for all to the music of Ida Gellrich’s orchestra. Cooked shrimp and rooked snap beans, when comined with a savory cream sauce, make a fine supper casserole. Season the sauce with Worcestershire, celery salt and dry mustard. Membership chairman Robert Kershaw announced that i membership to date was 453, with five rooms reporting 100 percent membership. Mrs. Amelia Cabot gave several safety rules to be observed through the holidays, and Mrs. Edward jßayly gave a report of the State convention held recently at Day-- tona Beach. ! The blue ribbon award was a- was won under the {leadership of Mrs. Ben Adams. Room representatives chairman Mrs. William Gardner asked all members to be present on Thurs day morning, December 17th, at ,9:30 to help pack fruit and candy ifor the children s party to be given the following day. Room count awards were pre sented to Miss Mary Ingles’ 6th grade. Door prize was won by ; Mrs. Gilbert Cosner. Refreshments were served at the close of the I meeting. Canned fig or pium pudding are time savers for holiday dinners. But give them a homemade touch by serving them with hard sauce made with part white and part brown sugar.
