SALISBURY, Md. UP) —Two men
who refused to help fight a forest
fire March 9 forfeited sl3 collater
al here yesterday.
Charges of refusing to fight the
fire were brought against them in
Wicomico County Peoples Court
by Forest Supervisor Robert G.
Dennis.
Dennis said Willie Ardis of
Girdletree and Morris Dale of
Snow Hill refused to fight a forest
fire which burned 10 acres of
woodland after having been placed
under summons by a forestry
department official.
Dennis reported Ardis and Dale
said they had to go to work.

Schoolgirl Saved From Death After 175-Foot Fall
MT. RAINIER NATIONAL
PARK, Wash. W—A schoolgirl
walking along a parapet overlook
ing a waterfall slipped and fell
175 feet onto an icy mound here
yesterday but survived and is
expected to recover.
Dolores Van Parys, 17, of Seattle
and another girl were returning
from viewing Narada Falls when
she slipped on the icy pathway,
slid 20 feet down the parapet side
and plunged to the stream bank
below.

Gunman Wounded
DENVER (i?V-Police wounded a
young gunman in the arm yes
terday near the Colorado capitol
after his bullets shattered street
lamps and a bookstore window.
The gunman, who identified him
self as Robert Smith, 25, of Cas
per, Wyo., shot out street lights
in the civic center and nearby
statehouse grounds and fired wild
ly at police before an answering
bullet brought him down.
Police quoted Smith as saying
he came here from Casper two
days ago and was disgruntled be
cause he couldn’t find a job.
