SUE JONES , Editor Arthur Noble Will Be 6 The Man Who Came To Dinner 9 Arthur Noble will be following iuch famous actors as Monty Wool* ley, Clifton Webb and Taylor Hol mes in the role of acid-tongued Sheridan Whiteside when he plays “The Man Who Came to Dinner” In the production of George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart’s convuls ing comedy success to be given here at the High School on Dec ember 1 and 2 by the Senior Class. Originally written as an acting part for the author’s. chum, the late Alexander Woollcott, whose ar senic and old lace disoosition the play lampoons, the character of Sheridan Whiteside is full of the carbolic acid of human kindness. He is in turn suave, charming, astringent, rude, and properly lack ing in group consciousness. Among the celebrities who help the famous lecturer turn the home of a small-town Ohio family into a madhouse are characters clearly burlesquing, though not naming, Kole Coward, Harop Marx and a famous actress which libel laws prevent naming here. The Noel Coward character, ac tually called in the play, Beverly Carlton or Destiny’s Tot, will be played here by Dennis Jolly while the role of “Banjo” who might be a caricature of Harpo or a com posite of all three of the zany Marxes, has been assigned to Rob ert Delgado. As Lorraine, the predatory ac tress, who is finally spirited off in a mummy case as part of the hi- Jinks in “The Mam Who Came To Dinner,” will be seen Gale Varela. Other members of the Senior class who will play leading roles in this sparkling comedy include Joe Ann Atwell, as Maggie, White aides spirited secretary; Jack Mc- Donough as Bert, Maggie’s report er boyfriend whom she almost loses due to Whiteside’s medd ling; and Joan Knowles as Miss Preen, Whiteside’s nurse, whom he addresses contempuously as “Miss eßdpan.” Others in the cast will be Frank Rood, Gail Simpson, Mary Harris, Ray Perez, Milly Taylor, and Dean ne Di Primo. Hailed by many critics as the funniest play the celebrated Kauf man and Hart have written, “The Man Who Came To Dinner” is a worthy companion to such others the-authors hits as “You CjfoV Take It With You,” “George Wash ington Slept Here,” and “Once In A Lifetime.” Canned green asparagus tastes •specially good it, after it is heat ed and drained, it is sprinkled with buttered crumbs. When you are mixing the melted butter and crumbs together for the topping, add a dash of paprika for color. Attention—Hen In Uniform!
