Before she Lecame Mrs. Edward Ambler,
she was called Mary Cary. Her father
was un Cary Ks j , of '( eleys, in the
county of hit zibet u City, descended from
the noblo family of llundsdon in England.
His relative, Col. Archibald Cary, of
'Ampthill,' m hcstcrueld, was at his death
the heir apparent t the earldom. The
worthy old gentleman seems, from all we
know of him, to have been as prord ts the
Coucys or the Somersets, aud to lave
thought his family the noblest in thd land.
Ho lived in great state, with chariot and
horses, plate, and velvet and embroidery
a worthy of the old school, fully satisfied
with th 'order of thingH, enjoying serenely
the good gifts of Providence. Ilia beauti
ful daughter was a great heiress, and had
many suitors the accident which befell
one of them has made her remembered in
many books. I Ie was a youug man of very
jgh character, a relative of George Will
iam Fairfax, E , who lived at 'IJelvoir,'
on the rotomac; and here he met with
Miss Cary, who came to visit Mrs. Fairfax,
her cider sister. The young man at once
proceeded to fall in love, which he did
with an ardor characteristic of bis nature.
When Miss Cary went back home to
'Celeys, on James lliver, he followed her

had a truthful foundation at least.
'Bat it does not seem that the lovely
woman was to blame. She had not been
able to return ihe affection of the youth
that was all. She married him who won
her heart. Edward Ambler. He wrs not
unworthy of this noble lady in rauk or in
character. He was decended thiough his
mother from the great Huguenot house of
La Roche Jaquehne m endee, and in
herited the honest instincts of his race.
At twelve he had been sent for his educa
tion to England; he graduated at Cam
bridge, and then made the grand tour of
Europe, returning to irginia when he was
twenty -one. He was married to Miss Cary
aoon afterward, became collecto at New
York, and was so much respected, that
when Lord Bottetourt came to Virginia as
uovernor, he brought a letter of introduc
tion to the Collector. He died at thirty
fire; and the Revolutionary War breaking
out aoon afterward, his beautiful widow
moved away from the scene of her grief,
and took refaga in the 'Cottage,' far up in
Hanover."

1858. in a case wherein Jamal . Toles is com
plainant and George II. Abrams and Ellas Hall
defendants, I, the subscriber, the Circuit Court
Comnusdiouer for the county of Ingham, bute of
Michigan, will sell at public auction, at the Court
House in the village of ilison, in said count v,
on Saturday the 25th day of June nest, at one
o'clock in the afternoon of that day, the lands
mentioned and described in said decretal order as
