f the Ste. Marie Canal, left Detroit for Sault
Ste. Marie this afternoon, with a view to exam
ine and ascertaiu what repairs of an immediate
character are needed, and to determine if the
main work can be deferred till July next, to nwet
the wishe and conveninee of the people of Lake
Superior.
Ascension at Detroit. Mr. Bannister made
a successful balloon ascension at Detroit on Wed
nesday lt. The lady who deigned to arise
with him, was compelled to remain on this
planet, owing to her specific gravity. The bal
loon landed safely in Canada, after soaring more
than a mile high.

L River Skvanip Land State Road will meet al
John Flannery's Hotel, in the tillage of I'avis
ville, i:i Sanilac county, on Wednesday, the 2 'th
day ot July net, at lo o'clock, A. M., for the
purpose of letting all that portion of said road in
Sanilac county, eoinniencins at the northes-t cor
ner ot section So, in township lo north, of range
15 east, thence we.t eighteen miles through said
county.
Also, at the old stand of Isaiah Riitl. r, in the
town ot Allison, in the county of Lapeer, on Fri
dav, the 22d day of July next, at lo o'clock, A.
M.; and also at Pcaseley's Store, in the town of
North Hratich, in said county, on Saturday, the
2od day of July next, at H o'clock, A. L, for the
purpose of letting all that portion of said road
and bridges in t-aid county, commencing at the
northeast comer of section :'.o, in town In north,
of ranre 12 east, thence wct and south to Flint
River, at the village ot Lapei r, i:i said county.
Said road vvi'l be let in sections of one mile
each, to lie completed within one year. The road
is to be built as follows :
To be grubbed thirty feet widei and cleared of
all looae timber, hnir-h and stones tour rods wide,
t nd all that poition of said road which is laid out
i rods wide is to be chopped out three rods ,n
each side of the centre. And the whole road is
to Ik tiirnpiked in Mich a manner that the centre
of the road will le two feet higher than the sur
face of the ground on cither side, or Mithi i.-nt to
form a dry mid bed.
All causeways to be built of tit'ilnT not ls
than six. inches in diameter, and iTfen fet long,
and covered with earth one foot in depth.
And all culverts to be built not Jes than fur
feet wide and twenty feet long, an 1 to be covered
with three inch plank.
The number ot side drains on each section, the
length of each, the nutnltT of rod of causeway
to bo built, the number and size of each culvert,
together with all necessary information, will be
given on the dav of letting.
