THE PRICES CURRENT.—The lale which is told by the prices current in all parts ol the country, is having mure effect upon the minds of the people, than all the speeches which are spoken, and editorials which are written, on the misdeeds of the present adminislration. Look to what part of the country you please, and you see nothing but depression in trade, and the utter prostration of all the products of the soil. The language of the prices current, is one mo notonous sing-song til "this article is dull —• "that article is lalling." and the other article is "hearing a nominal price." And will not in telligeniT farmers, who litis year will find their incomes cut short one half, ask what has caused this diminution of their means of livelihood < Will they not, of necessity, look into the cause which has thrown the country from a height of prosperity which was without a parallel in ihe history of the world, into an abyss of depres sion and prostration which the most desponding never dreamed of? Surely, they will, and ihe most superficial examination must satisfy them that the mad experiments of the administration have brought these evil days upon them.—Pe tersburg Intelligencer. The deck passengers elected Gen. Harrison. We extract the following sign from the Cin cinnati Republican : STEAMER EXPRESS.—A vote was taken on this boat the other day, on her passage from Cincinnati to Pittsburg, and resulted as tol lows For Harrison p< ) For Van Bnren 38 This included both cabin and deck passen gers, and 12 states were represented, and none from the New England States. Another —on the Monsoon from St. Louis, which arrived here on Friday evening. Out of 85 passeners there were hut jive Van Buren men, and SO for Harrison— Stop the Ball. "Served Right."—A fashionable lady ol more show than substance, residing in Nassau street, New York, lately went into a thread store in the Bowery, and alter busying the clerk for nearly two'hours, purchased a single spool of thread. She thought it too vulgar, however, to carry it home, and requested to have it sent. No sooner had she leit the store than a handcart was procured, the spool de posited in it, taken to the door of her residence and dumped upon the sidewalk, alter the fash ion of a ton of coal—for which she was obliged to fork over twenty-five cents, cartage money. Some people won't believe this. ILLINOIS. —We published on Saturday, a challenge from Indiana, "that they would give a larger" majority for Harrison and Tyler next fall, Tn proportion to the number of votes cast, than any other State in the Union." We are requested by a gentleman from Alton, to say, that Illinois accepts the challenge. So JJoosiers look out, or the Suckers will beat you. SMUGGLING.— A Yalencienness paper gives the following instance, though the expedient is not new, of the ingenuity oi the men who carry on a contraband trade between Belgium and Fiance by means of dogs. An inhabitant of Landrecies, known to be a smuggler, was stopped by the offi cers of the customs, and a struggle ensued. A poidle coated dog who was with him took part with his master, and attacked one of the officers. During the conflict, the tag ol" a lace was per ceived hanging down under the animal's body, and upon this, the officers secured the dog. It was soon found that the animal was no poodle, but had his naturally smooth coat ingeniously enveloped in a poodle-'s skin, between which and his body were wound 60 yards of Mechlin lace. STEAM ON COMMON ROADS.—A Mr. CharlesDictz of France, lias succeeded in propelling carriages over common roads, by means of steam. An experiment h is been recently made, according to a report read in one of the French Institutes, in which two large om nibusses filled with people, were attached to a tow carriage, and drawn for several miles at the rate of ten miles an hour. The vehicle could be guided in any direction, without disturbing the equability of its motion. Companies are forming to bring the inven tion into immediate use.—-Veto 1 ork Post. The London Morning Chronicle states tha 1 "there are capitalists in London prepared with funds to enable the Spanish government to put an end to the civil war, and negociations have been l'or some time going on witlr the view of set tling the basis of a loan for that purpose." As usual at this season of the year, the moun tains of our region are on fire, and burning with great rapidity, at a few miles distant.—MaucK Chunk Cour. A bill has passed the New York House of Assembly, appropriating $5,000 a year, for five years, in aid of the Albany Medical College. rjIIPPECANOETEXT BOOK.—MR. IMPROVEMENTS IN DENTAL SURGERY. —lt has lor many years been a great desideratum among European and American Dentist io manufacture TEETH from incorruptible materials, which should imitate the artifi al living teeth. Many have devoted years to unsuccessful experiments, and o thers have succeeded in manufacturing Teeth of materials simi lar to the porcelain ware, but generally they hate an opaque white appearance, by whiehlhey are easily distinguished irons the human Teeth. After long and tedious experiments, the subscriber has suc ceeded iu manufacturing Teeth of materials entiiely incorrup tible and perfectly in imitation of human Teeth. They have a semi transparency aud are made of various size and shades. In cases where absorption of the alveolar process, or other causes may render it necessary, he will cast ol the same materi als attached to the Teeth: artificial gums, which shall imitate the Gum and supply the loss of substance. It is entirely impossible lor these Teeth to change theircolor or cause foetcd breath. He will insert them from one to entire sets, ins uch a maimer that they will make articulation of the voice perfect, and ma terially assist in mastication, and to that they cannot be distin guished from the most beautiful natural Jiviug Teeth by the inost scrutinizing observer. He also performs all the various operations in Dental Sur gery, according to the late scientific improvements in the art. The following testimonials from gentlemen whose rapcctabiii ty needs no encomium, are respectfully submitted to the public. From N. U. Smith, professor of Surgery in the University of Maryland. BALTIMORE, Oct. 28,1836. I have/ examined specimens of incorruptible Composition Teeth, manufactured by Dr. F. 11. Knapp, an ingenious Dentist of thiscity. In their form, eolor etc. they admirably imitate the natural Teeth. Being completely incorruptible by the agents which aflict the Teeth, and also apparently very strong, they must be peculiarly filled for the purpose for which the) vfttre designed NATHAN U. SMITH. From Professor Ducalcl. Having examined some Artificial Teeth prepared by I)r. F. H. Kuan, and learned from him what are the principal ingre dients that enter into their composition, aud the nature ot the matorialf by which they are colored, 1 am iucliued to thiuk that they will prove, as he represents them to be, incorruptible. Dr. Knapp, having moreover acquired the art of varying tbe colors of (be eu*mel which covers his Artificial Teeth, is there by enabled to impart to them a more natural appearance than such Teeth are usually found to poshes*; a circumstance that will doubtless reuder them more acceptable to the public.
