Dauphin county contains the only tree of Its kind in the world, a species of Giesnlaud fir. aud although leas than a foot high the circumference of the ■pace covered by its branches Is sixty feet. This tree Is located on the Shenk (arm In Bull Frog valley, about five miles from here. It Is at least 200 years old, and from a short distance it appears to be simply a collection of small shrubs. Horticulturists of the country, who have heard of the phenomenon, have made offers of substantial sums for the tree, with a view to removing Ik, roors and all; but these offers have been consistently refused. Aside from tree specialists aud residents of the neighborhood, few persons have heard of the spreading tree. In Greenland. Its original home, the species never grows high and is little more than a shrub.
