OEEP~MYSTERY IN SHOOTING Police R*iffled by Case of N’icok) Cappola. Found Dying On Porch The killing of Nlcolo Cappo’a. .15 years old .on the porch of hia home ai No. 312 Lafayette-ave, late Sat urday night, is one of the deepest mysteries with which »he police have been confronted in con nection with an Italian slaying in years, according to Detectives Rog ger*. Wnndrie and OldanL Cappola was found dying from a fractured sk ill and two bullet wounds on the second story porch of the house jn yhich he hoarded. At the time of the shooting no one was home. Joseph Messina, the landlord, returned home at 11:30 o'clock and found Cappola slowly bleeding to death. lAter several o'her roomers returned and the po lice were called. Six persons were arres’ed. They are; Joseph Me*«ina. 31 y*ars old; James Roco. 27, No. 125 Russell-st.; John Mesatna, 23; Anrelo Maltease. 3&. and Joseph ra.*»a. 33 years did The police say that Roco was pre paring to leave the ci'y when h* was arrested. Ai far as the p©H'%* •'in deter mine the death was not the result o fa feud between Italian faction*. It la not known thAt he had any enemies in this country. All i?v vestigatlon* »o find a motive for the killing have been futile. When the police searched the yard in the rear of the home, a 1 long barreletl 3S<aliber revolver was found A few minutes before the body 1 was fotin da fire was discovered In the barn of Vittorio f’apratta. of 1 No. 232 Lafayette-Rve. east, a short ! distance from CappoU’s home. It Is the custom of the Italians to dls j charge firearms into the air as a I fire alarm, and the police think it barely possible that strar bullet#, struck Cappola when he stood on the porch looking at the fire. That theory, the police hold. Is barely possible, but improbable FEAR MASSACRE OF CATHOLICS Av VS IT El) MEEK. j WAHKINGTON. I believe ! it will give thp city a community equal to Port Sunlight, in England. The Elmwood Park idea seems to embody ijg everything that wage-earners require in any fl section that ia to solve their housing problem. 3! It it a practical plan that I heartily indorse. fjl II am one of the stockholders in the Sam uel A. Merchant Company, which is putting Elmwood Park on the market, and am also interested in the immediate building of at least one model house to cost not over $2,500, to demonstrate the utmost the home-seeking public can secure for the money.
