It welcomes letters relating experiences with advertisers who have been unfair In their assertions or promisee—who nave misled or i Juped the reading public. It will pay proper recognition to honest adver tisers. Dishonest advertisers who may be found in The Times will not be spared. It will print letters deemed of public Interest. Advice will also be given to inveetors. Only signed letterc, giving the writer’s name and address will be considered. Names will be printed or withheld as preferred. 1 Address, The Ad-Mirror, The Times. Detroit, Mich ■dttor Ad Mirror;—> I have taken a-'m* stork In the standard flulphuv •orp-- ratten of Delaware ».n the strength of the rid being In The Timea. as I have a lot of rnnflrtenoe In your paper, and now T would be thankful to you If you would let me know your idea of It and Klv« me a little advice l’lf hm withhold name. H. J . etrolt, Mich This la one of several inquiries the Ad-Mirror has received concerning (he Standard Sulphur proposition. We take this opportunity to answer all of them. Mr.,J. has paid this newspaper she compliment of investing his money on the strength of ihe representations made in the advertising and making his investigation afterwards Ther- is an old saying. ‘ Nothing ventured, nothing gained,” which it were well to forget where promotion projects are concerned, as a general rule But every rule has an exception now and then, and this seem* to be one of the exceptions. The Times thoroly investigated the claims of Ihe promoters of the Standard Sulphur corporation i\ fore accepting it* advertising We have xeen the originals of the reports on which tho claims made In the adver tisement are based, and we regard those statements as well founded and conservative. The property, in which Ihe company holds perpetual mineral rights, is located In fulberson and Reeves counties, Texas, about 130 miles directly east of FI Paso as the crow flies and 180 miles by fail. That there are extensive sulphur depouifa In Culberson county is a geological fart. The Standard holdings comprise 4,907 acres, 3,600 of which, we ar« told, show sulphur outcroppings on the surface. Borings scattered over 700 acres show rich veins of sulphur below the surface. There are two veins, one of 30 feet And another of 16 feet in thickness. In the first 70 feet. Assays of samples taken from these borings averaged 56 per cent of sulphur to the ton of ore Some of them ran as high as 71.48 per cent. The company controls patents on a process for reducing the ore ‘hat Is simplicity itself. Oil Interests In the vicinity are already planning on the construction of a standard giiage railroad to the nearest railroad town, Orla. Bmiles away, which will the needed shipping connections. The plant, as outlined to us, can be built for not to exceed 150,000 and can be operated with a small force. We can see no good reason why the company should not be producing sulphur by early spring or the beginning of summer at the latest, if there Is no delay In raising the money Only 350,000 of 1168.780 authorized by the Michigan Securities commission is being offered at this time, and we understand that this is about half sub scribed Thus there would seem to he no question as to basic merit of the proposition. What of the management ’ The officers are Detroit men of standing A. F I’udrith is president. Alfred Tlnally. vie*, president. Robert B Swart, secretary; G F. I.athrnp. treasurer, Ralph M Tate, counsel The directors are the officers and tha following: George J. Albrecht and Dr William R. Baker. In Lhla connection a transcript of the minutes of a directors' meeting of Sept 25 Is interesting At this meeting a resolution was passed provld ing that no officer shall receive «n> salary until after the preferred stock Is retired under the terms stated on the far*- of the certificate (which ■* on the basis of 1125 for every lion Invented) and further, that th• agger gate of the salaries of all the officer* shall at no time eg e»d 2’y per cent of the gross earnings A ropy of then* minutes was filed with th* securi ties commission and became one of the conditions on which the permit wa bnsed It seems to us that the Interests of stockholders in th .<* propoei':nn are Amply protected Anyone who has followed th*- • ip'ur marnef in us that It la now selling a* about 177 p* r ton and ■* -t« <1 mount.r.g Th* company is planning on a minimum production of r.o an* pe da> e a cost not to exceed 1* per cent of the present market p';c* figure it out for yourself.
