crowded house is anticipated.
Mr. John Hood, a Republi
can, formerly of Natchez, but
at present located at Washing,
ton city, writes to a gentleman
of this parish, in highly com
plimentary terms of congress.

As evidence that this is with
out doubt the most eligible
point for the crossing of the
Southern Pacific Railroad, nol
withstanding the high, water,
planters from the interior are
able to drive their stock from
the swamp to the Mississippi
hills, without trouble or loss,
while at Delta, opposite Vicks
burg, the trestle work of the
Shreveport Railroad is said to
be two feet under water. This
fect alone, should be sufficient
weight to decide the committee
in favor of Natchez and Vidalia.
