Little Delaware comes to the front and in State Convention in structs for a very large man, politi callySenator T. F. Bayard. Gov. Bate, of Tennessee, was re nt iminated by the Democratic Con vention by acclamation. There is no doubt about his election. Cokgkessman J. D. C. Atkins and Hon. Robert Tffylor, are the Demo cratic Electors for the State-at-large in Tennessee. They were elected by acclamation in the State Convention last week. The Kepublicans of Indiana have nominated Hon. W. H. Calkins for Governor. He is the strongest man they have in Congress, and it is a pity they should retire him from a sphere of usefulness, to lead a hope less fight at home. Colorado, Georgia. Louisiana, Michigan and New York, held Demo cratic Conventions on the 18th, and most of them expressed preference for Governor Cleveland for Presi dent. The Prohibitionists of Illinois and Ohio were in conclave on the same day. i i There is great dissatisfaction among business men and the inde pendents in the Eastern States at the nomination of Blaine, but then there are many who are endoavoriug to push themselves into prominence from obscurity, utilizing the action of Chicago No. 1 as a lover. "Twos mr tb.UB,'' and RO forth. The Congressional Convention of Prentiss county will meet at Boon ville on Monday, Jn'y 7tb, for apk pointment, of delegates to the Dis trict Convontion at Columbus on the 15th. Bologates to the County Convention will be appoiutod from the several voting precincts on Sat urday, July 5th, and will be instruct ed as to choice for Representative. ii ia. The Meine Democrats in conven. tion declared opposition to war taxes and in favor of the retention of pres ent duties on whisky and tobacoo. They also resolved that it was the opinion of the convention that the nomination of Governor Cleveland for President is demanded as the best to unita all the friends of good government, etc. Tub Republicans of Vermont held their Convention on tho 18th, and of course heartily endorsed the nomina tion of Blaine. There is a respecta ble handful of Democrats up in the Green Mountain State, however, who never fail to demote their best efforts to the defeat of the Republican party, and they will give Mr. Blaine as warm a raceptiou as possible. The Democratic State Convention of Indiana meets on the 25th inst It is reported that Hoii. Thomas A. Hendricks has stated his willingness to accept the nomination of Gover nor, and if this is true it will probably be accorded to him by acclamation and he will be elected by the most irwhelining majority that has been polled in that State since the war. Joe McDonald, of Indiana will work wherever he is placed. He will if nominated by the Democratic Con vention for the Presidency, lead the ticket grandly; if called to the second place he will aocept the orders of his party with alaority; if assigned to a place in the ranks, he will buckle on his armor and make the very best fight he knows how to mako, as a high private; and what is more, he will neither murmur, sulk, grumble or manifest the lihtest dispobition to kick out of the traces. Notwithstanding the Btringent lawg, the immigration of Chinese con tinues to such an extent that the ar rivals this year are creating great ex citement among tho Pacific slope people. "John" is cunning enough to find out and avail himself of any loop hols that may afford him ad vantage, and our Pacifio coast friends wijl remember that the enforcement of the law made to restrict Chinese immigration, is entirely iu the hands oi a Republican Administration. THE RIGHT: A ABERDEEN, MISSISSIPPI, TnE Mass Canvention of the DemV ocrats of Monroe county, that as sembled in this city on Friday, was one of the largest we have had in Aberdeen for years. A special to the Mobile Register estimated the crowd at 350, we think it was nearer threo times that number. The proceedings were conducted with good humor and modaraiion, although the enthusiastic friends of the several candidates were rather noisy in their demonstrations of par tiality and attachment. The main object of most of those who participated was to reconcile tho dissension within the ranks of the party that had grown out of the convention difliculties of 1883, and that this was to a large extent ac- accomplished is due in great meas ure to the patriotic speeches of the candidates for nomination, Mossrs. Simon! on Leigh and Allen. At night the boys got out the can non and fired a salute in honor of the re-uuited Democracy of Old Monroe, and in defiance of tho cun ning enemy confronting us. riiMKCiiKer t'lirtt to Hit Exposition The National Passenger Agents' Association has appoined a com mittee of fifteen of its members, to consider and report upon the subject of rates to the World's Centennial Exposition at New Orleans, The committee, consisting of General Passenger Agents of the leading roads and syndicates in the United S atuB, was in session in the d escent City on the 18th inst.and gave D rec tor General Burke assurance that a reduced rate would be granted.and every facility afforded for the transportation of visitors. This committee very properly took into consideration the matter of accom modation of the immense numbers of the people who would be assem bled in New Orleans, and demanded assurances for their entertainment and protection from the oppressive exactions that are so common upon all such occasions. While this matter was a little irrelevant to the subject, the railroad officials wore unwilling to be instrnrnentiil in scouring vieit ors who should be subjected to in - convenience in the way of accommo dations, and they were right in manding that full and complete pre parations be made for tho entertain ment of all who might pass over their lines of road, Mr. E. These gentlemen expect to do an immense business in the near future, and will make a fine exhibit in the Mississippi Department of the New Orleans Exposition. They are from the great wine region of Ohio, and are confident of meeting with far greater success in Mississippi than can be achieved in the Buckeye State. The Louisiana State Democratic Convention wa3 in session at Baton Ronge on Tuesday, for the appoint ment of delegates to Chicago. Messrs, E. A. Burke, B. F. Jonas, A. A. Gunby and E.G. A change of schedule for tlio dou ble daily passenger trains on the Illinois Central Railroad, will take place at an early date. The Ripley Argus, an able Missis sippi Greenback paper, declines to support Butler, the nominee of that party, for President. Thk oat crop in the piuey woods counties has yielded a splendid har vest. The State Convention of Louisiana, adopted the Ohio Phittorin, in refer ence to tariff, in the following lan guage: "That it is the duty of the country to protect all its citizens alike and to conserve all its industries, hence we favor a tariff for revenue, limited to the necessities of the Government economically administered, and so adjusted in its application as to pre vent unequal burdens, encourage productive industries at home and afford just compensation to labor, but not to create or foster monopolies." This platform was substantially endorsed by Penusylvauia, aiid affords the very best compromise ground to all genuine tariff reformers. In the opinion of one of the oldest newspapers in the land, Mr. Blaine is not a safe man and the business world knows it. Thoughtful people, it suggests, will be apt to hesitate before they vote for the brilliant and restless man of Maine. The oppressed business man who cannot leave his office or store or factory for a summer rest, will likeb think twice before he helps to the Presidency a man whose career has been full of surprise and daring declarations.
