Latest from below. The flying West Newton, on her sec ond trip this week, passed St. Paul this morning at 3 o’clock, on her way to Fort Snelling. She relurncj to our landing at five. By the attention of her officers, we have Galena papers of Thursday. We extract the following: Cholera at Dlblqte.— We learn from the Dubuque stage driver, that but two or three deaths from cholera occurr ed in that city on Tuesday. The disease appears to be on the decline.— Jefj. The Excelsior, Capt. Ward, arrived from St. Louis yesterday at 5 o’clock, with a very heavy load of passengers and freight for up river, and left same eve ning.— .idv. hoR St. Paul.—The steamers Saint Paul and Dr. Franklin left yesterday for St. Paul with an average of’3oo passen gers each, and all the f reight they could carry. The passenger and freight trade, above Galena, lias increased 300 percent, within one year. Minnesota will treble her populat ion the present summer.— Jeff. Hon. W:n. R. King, of Alabama, is the Democratic nominee for Vice Presi dent. The Steamer Ben Campbell arrived at Galena on Thursday, an ! was to leave for St. PauPyejterday. Our former fellow-citizen, Mr. John Crombacker, who lias been absent in California two years, was a passenger by the Newton this morning. The Dr. Franklin arrived this morning at hall-past five o dock. We arc again indebted to Mr. Mclvill for papers. By the following, from the Galena Ad vertiser of last Saturday, it will be seen an amicable arrangement has been made between the Galena and Keokuk packets, ia rcgajd to carrying the river mail. We, and the whole upper country, are glad of it : We understand that MeCutie &. Co., proprietors of the Keokuk pickets, have ma le arrangements for carrying the mails between ft. Louis and Galena, with the Galena boats, and that they are to com mence ti:e service at once. ’ The follow ing commanders have been consulted and agree to the proposition : Minnesota, Gleiin, leaves St. Louis Monday. Brunette. Barger, leaves St. Louis I uesday. Golden Era, Bersie, leaves St. Louis Friday. Saranac, Riley, leaves St. Louis Saturday. Further arrangements will probabiv he mode for Wednesday and Thursday, as follows : Shanandoah, , leaves St. Louis Wednesday. Danube, Green, leaves St. Louis Thursday. So the arrangement is completed at list, in a manner very similar to that which we have suggested from time to time, for some months past. The Keo kuk Packet Company’s boats will no long er appear at our Levee, but we have se cured all the advantages that would have accrued, had they done so. Mmm:.—At the \\ liig Convention for tin- -lill Co tgrcssioiml District in Maine held :it Augn>ta on the 2.Yh uit., Hon. Divid C. From the Bluffs —Emigrants Re turning, Sic.—The Delaware returned last evening from Council Bluffs, having performed the triple tint point and hack, taking upwards ol (JOO tuns of freight, in thirteen days anti a half. She reached the Bluffs on the 2<>lh, and a few hours after the Honduras landed, and the day following the two boats discharged I.IOU barrels of flour and other provisions nee led, in like quantities, into tlie town and glutted the market. Flour, which had been the day previous selling at Sib and ;-i7 per hundred, declined to S>7 and !j>S per bid- and the general impression was, it would go down to fy(i. The cap tain of the Honduras, who had a consid erable quantity on his own account, stored it, and returned in company with the Delaware. Kanesville. from all accounts, is vet thronged with Mormaiis, the Cali fornian and Oregon emigrants having nearly all left. Painful rumors of sickness among the emigrants on the plains, have recently reached Kanesville and points below. The cholera, it is said, or a disease re scinbbiig it, lias played havoc with some of the trains, and the Indians are very troublesome Several skirmishes have taken place between them and the emi grants, near the frontier, and killed and wounded arc reported on both sides. These rumors, we have reason to be lieve and hope, are in a great degree un founded. Among the passengers on the Dela ware was Mr. Thomas and another gen tleman, returning Californians, after reaching Blue river, some one hundred and fifty miles from St. Joseph. They give as reasons for their return, the ap pearance of cholera among the emigrants, and the evident difficulties they would have to encounter, not only incident to the trips, but from the Indians. They bring their stock with them. Others will follow their example. The Dela ware reports the health of the Missouri towns good since die departure of the emigrants. She returns to the Bluffs. — St. Louis Intel. Sioux Treaty. —The Washington Re public of the 27th makes no mention of the Sioux Treaty, reported to have been ratified on the 26th—hence we conclude, that the rejiort was not true. Wolves are getting troublesome in Grant county, and the citizens have de termined on the process of summary ejectment; and accordingly we find the following in the Herald : Grand Wolt Hunt—At the Head of Grant, on Saturday, the slh of June. — Every body is requested to meet at Mr. Crolt’s house, in the morning at nine o’clock, lor drill preliminaries, and to re ceive all necessary orders for the cam paign. It is expected every man in the regiment will have one or more dogs, a gun and a tin horn. The old gentleman who thought he could teach girls how to make love, is about erecting an academy for the pur pose of instructing fleas in the art of jumping. The mail who had to lower his shirt ! collar to pass under the Wheeling Bridge, arrived in Cincinnati last week. He was laboring under a slight attack ol the col lar-y morbus. J me e Edmonds. — The Albany Knick erbocker says that in consequence of the strange conduct of this gentleman with reference to the spirit rappings, visions, &0., several gentlemen of the bar in tha t citv, intend to apply to Gov. Hunt for a commission to inquire into his sanity. The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Com pany are now working a locomotive up a grade 520 feet to the mile. This grade occurs at the tunnel, where a temporary track has been laid over the mountain, for the purpose of transporting material for the road beyond, in advance of open ing that work. The locomotive used weighs 21 tons, and the ordinary load at tached to it, in addition toils own weight is twelve tons. This grade has thus far been worked with regularity and safety. The whole power obtained is in the or dinary adhesion of the driving wheels. Indians About. —The Mineral Point j Tribune of last week notices ihe appear ance of a large body of Indians in that ■ quarter, on their way north. They were removed to the Missouri country last fall by the State Government, but disliking their new quarters, have come back to , their old outs. The Madison Democrat i mentions that a large band passed through that town on their way to Sheboygan.— -Milwaukee Sentinel. i i B. G.
