F MINNESOTA ROUTE TO THE EAST, VIA. PRAIRIE DU CHTEN. In these progressive clays, men travel either on pleasure or business, naturally choose the best aud quickest route. Tho only question to decide is, which is the" best and quickest route?—a question puzzling enough to a stranger, with an agent at each elbow, but simple enough after clearly under standing the comparative merits of dif ferent routes. In going from St. Paul to the East, there are two routes offered, viz., by way of Dunleith, or by way of Prairie du Chinn. Of these two routes that by way of Prairie du Chien is unquestion ably the quickest and best, as by it pas sengers will arrive in Chicago twelve hours sooner than by the way of Dun leith . 'I lie Milwaukee, Itaska and Ocean W avc, three first class packets, run on this line, one of them leaving every eve ning at 6 o'clock, and connecting at Prairie du Chien with the night express over the Milwaukee and Mississippi Railroad at 4 P. M. ‘he next day; so that passengers arrive in t Licago early; the next morning, in season to connect: with the express trains on either the I Michigan Central or Michigan Southern; roads. These boats leave promptly of j the advertised time, ami citizens may! pursue their ordinary business up to 5 o’clock in the afternoon, aud then goi down to the -evee with a* certainty of; finding a boat leaving at 6. The other day the Ocean Wau; failed to arrive at the time due, and several gc/i\ ! v men in i i-te to reach Chicago, t 1 the Grey Eagle for Dunleith, at 1 o’clock. A? 7in the evening the Ocean Wave arriv' d, discharged her freight, and returned to Prairie du Chien, mak ing the run down in less than seventeen hours, connecting with the regular train at 4 o’clock; and passengeis a; lived in Chicago before the passengers by the dr y Eagle had left Dunleith. A man leaving-St Paul by a Dunleith packet on Monday morning at 5 o'clock, connects with the Tuesday evening train from Dunleith, and reaches Chicago early on Wednesday morning- Another man wa ts eleven hours in St. Paul, and leaves on Monday evening at <! o’clock, connects vilh thr- Tuesday evening train at Prairie du Chien, and readies Chi-! cago on Wednesday morning as soon ot\ sooner than his friend who went hv Dun-! St. Louis, says: “The rule oi’ 'the greatest {rood to tin greatest number’ imparativeiy demands a more northern route than that with winch we are threatened. If the north ern verge of V. : ' * vere to he taken starting point.'it would he far more equitable and just towards the ar mrests of the whole country. The mass of iisn;:fTfi\nt -* t-ven then, in rc«chi the point of departure westward, would save u o e than hdfthe distance log' in traveling to Marshal!, and the saving in pecuniary expense of traveling would ah ne ha sufficient to provide a large share of the supplies necessary for ttie overland journ y,— Si. Paul Jhlv'r. The St. Paul Light Cavalry have had much uifFicti'fy so fat in proemino their equipments and arms. There are at present no Cavalry sabres in the ar mory at the Capitol, an ! it is doubtful v.-hether they, cap be procured in suffi cient time to appaar in the grand parade with the rest of the military on the 4ch of next month. Gov. Medaiy has, we understand, written to Washington to know why no equipments for volunteer Cavalry have beten sent to Minnesota in our proportionmetit of the public arms. As this is the only Cavalry Company in our Territory, proper encouragement ought to be extended to it. We hope Gov. M. will he able to procure the re quisite arms, and that this company may soon take its proper rank among our volunteer city military,— Minnesolian. TEN THOUSAND IVew Subscribers Wanid ! A 7i E PUDLIC, be*ring the name Warren Kimball, and, by own confession a cousin of the illustri ous Wahren, who scaled his faith blood, on Bunker Hill, ’and who appears to stand as fair n chance for notoriety as his dead cousin for fame, came to my house‘about three weeks since. His manners were fault less, his conversation charming, his connection lofty, and last, but most im- j portent of all the qualities which reeo- j ; mend a man to public favor and make j him a gentleman whether Nature and | Education conspire to bring about such j u result or no—he was inunenesly rich, I | owning land in an almost unbroken' body from here to Kansas. Tins is bis ; own story; and some would doubt it, among them myself, had he not true j Irietius behind, to champion his honor' and birth. Mr. Kimba 1 left Sauk Rapids so sud denly that he failed to pay for his board, —a small affair, and likely to be over looked by a gentleman doing such an immense business —and worse, did not speak a kindly parting word to the friends he left in sorrow.
