AU RtVOIR, SIMMONS, HIRSCH AND YOUNGDAHL . . .
The month of September is a sad month for yours truly and I’l
tell you why. Three of my closest friends and their families are leav
ing our state and as the days near for their departing I feel evci
more sad.
They all have, been of great service to the community and the;
will be missed for many years to come. The Hirschs and the Simmom
are going to sunny California and the Youngdalils are going to Wash
Ington. I hope to see ’em during the next few months upon my visit,
to Dos Angeles and Washington.
Good luck to all of ’em as they are the finest people this side o
heaven.
Next Thursday night at the Nicollet Hotel hundreds of John Sim
men's friends will pay honor to him and his family. It will be a gram
affair and knowing the plans well in advance I can assure you thai
those that will attend will always cherish this affair.
As chairman of the ticket committee I might report that ticket.'
are going good and those wishing to attend can contact me at Geneve
0264.
If someone wants a slogan for their campaign to oust McCarthy
from the Senate, how about this: "The Bore That Made Milwauke*
Famous ?"
Promoter Tony Steelier writes from California that he’s return
ing within two weeks to again plan on a busy season with Imxing am
wrestling shows He adds that now that Jackie Graves' contrail
troubles are over with he ll headline his first fight show of the sea.ior
early in October. His plans call for his return by the 15th of Sep
tember.
Next Wednesday night in New York the Robinson-Turpin figtit
takes place and like myself, most of you wish yeu were there to se<
it. We took in the movie of their last fight in London a few month.-
back and thought It sensational
Most likely Robinson will again enter the ring as a favorite but
I think most of the fans and newspapermen have underrated young
Turpin. He’s really a great fighter and my best guess n that he’ll
still be champion after the fight
NOBODY ASKED Mt, BUT . . .
lam Viscusl, the very best manager in the country will managi
Jackie Graves.
Sugar Ray Robinson, when he hangs ’em up will go in for poli
tics. (Well, I could think of worse things.)
Add to things I don’t want to miss The John Simmons ami
Governor Youngdahl parties.
Shirley Zaverl knows of another Iron curtain her laundry.
Movie cashiers don't look as pretty as they used to
Much as I like Jane Russell, I wouldn't want to be on a desert
island with her (are you readin’. Anabelle?)
Jackie Graves is the only fighter I know of who behaves as if he
weren't.
Men who kiss and tell are not half as bad as those who kiss and
exagerate.
Congratulations are in order to IRVING BRAND, the newest
Judge. It couldn't happen to a nicer person.
Soon the only untainted sport will be "tiddly winks "
If the Republicans don’t watch out, they'll unintentionally get
rid of Acheson one of these days. Then they'll have no one to save
the country from and it will serve them right.
George Davis says: "One way to avoid having to notice those first
signs of shiny baldness is to put on dark glasses before combing your
hair.’’
I eat twice as much when I'm out at a resort
Have you heard the one about the woman who collected $50,000
Insurance when her husband died. While In mourning she told a
friend. “I’m no sad I’d give SIO,OOO of this money to have him back."
Overheard at a late hour on Hennepin Ave "Stop trying to kiss
me. I ll have none of your lip."
Jackie Cameron, in a parking lot notes, that most of the argu
ments start from scratch.
A Couple of so-called fighters were talking about themselves and
one said: "Insomnias got mo worried I can't even sleep when it's
time tx> get up " Hut don't get me wrong, 1 love the boxing game
My vacation Is over, thank you boss and readers and a double
thank you to the guest writers

With the St. Paul Saints as

Although Milwaukee has
clinched the pennant, the fight for
playoff p< sition continues between
St. Paul, Kansas City. Minneapo
lis and Louisville. As a result of
the scramble, the Saints are not
yet certain as to who their play
off opponent will be or when the
first game will he played in St.
Paul. If the Saints finish second
I which seems likely at the mo
ment, th* playoffs will definitely
open at Lexington Park a week
from today, Tuesday, Septem

Th* club also announced that in
the event Minneapolis is St. Paul’s
playoff opponent, the playoff
[ series will rotate between the two

September 11. However, there
would be an off day on Wednes
day, September 12, since both
clubs have agreed to no game on
that date in view of the pro foot
ball charity game scheduled in
I Minneapolis
I Should the Saints drop to third

open in Milwaukee on September
