Social and Personal Surprised: Mr. and Mrs. Marcellus Jackson, 342 Rondo Ave., gave a surprise birthday party at their home on Sunday, Feb. 8, in honor of their daughter, Mrs. Ruth Lankford. Danc ing was the feature of the evening. Music was furnished by a four piece orchestra, James Harris and his Swing Masters. Cocktails were served followed by a delicious shrimp supper The table was beautifully set with a centerpiece of roses and fern. Guests who helped celebrate were Messrs, and Mmes. John Dickson. Marvin Tillman, Edward Washington and Harvey Ren frow rs. he •ry ib- er- Changes Name: The Sunshine Band of Mt. Olivet Baptist church voted to change its name to the Jewel Seers Sunshine Band. There were nine children present at the last meeting and four visitors, Mrs. Ruth McDonald, pianist, also acted as secretary. Mrs. Mattie Milsap is one of the supervisors. Popcorn donated by Mr. Golden, cookies and nectar were served. Mrs. Milsap furnished the candy. The next meeting will be held February 21, at the home of Mrs Milsap. 309 St. Anthony Ave. Coming Event: On the fourth Sunday in March, which 'will be the 22nd, there will be a conse crated candle light service held at Mt. Olivet Baptist church, conse crating members of the Bessie Miller Prayer band. Members of other churches are invited to join the prayer band. Qualifications are that you pray every morning at nine o’clock wherever you are: first, you pray for the minister and his official staff; second, pray for the unsaved that attend all of our churches and thirdly, pray for increased numbers in the prayer service and that people will come back to God in prayer. »g ey ed Ut. ye 63 B. Their guest speaker was Feike Feikima, distinguished author. The meeting was very well attended. Mr. Feikima dis cussed his writing theory and philosophy. Official Visits West Coast Mrs. R. S. Harris, 445 Kent St., returned home, Monday. February 2, for a most enjoyable vacation spent in Seattle, Wash, and Port land, Ore. In Seattle, she was the house guest of Mr. and Mrs. Z. Cox, who owns one of the more beautiful homes in the city. She renewed old acquaintances with former Minnesotans and was shown many social courtesies. She was the luncheon and din ner guest of Mrs. Arlelia Norwood grand worthy matron and inter national grand deputy of the Eastern Star. She was dinner guest on Sunday of Mrs. Zelma Darrick, grand secretary and in temational associate. Grand con ductress, also dinner guest of Mr. and Mrs. John Robinson (Evelyn Kelly.) Mrs. Harris attended church services at Mt. Zion Baptist church in company with Mmes. Cox and Robinson. Rev. F. Davis is pastor. Visited with Mr. and Mrs. Stafford and she is happy to report that Mrs. Stafford is im proving Also visited with the F. H. Bowmans, the Murrells and Mrs. Viola Fancio. She attended a meeting of the past matrons and past patrons council. Mrs. Harris reports that one of the interesting features of her vis it was a trip with Mr. and Mrs. Cox. to their farm, which is lo cated about 18 miles from Seattle. Mr. Cox plans to raise chickens, pigs, own a cow; do gardening as a hobby. All produce raised to be used for their own consump tion. In Portland, Mrs. Harris was the house guest of Mrs. Julia Shelton, a girlhood friend. She was the guest of the J. H. Martins at the annual party of the Culture Club, which was held in the pala tial home of Dr. and Mrs. Un thank. Cards and dancing were the featured entertainment fol lowed by a delicious lunchean. Mrs. Harris was the guest of Mrs. Abbie E. Cantrell, associate grand matron of the Calif, juris diction. Mrs. Annabelle Caldwell daughters of Mr Shelton, enter-* tained at breakfast in honor of Mrs. Harris. "I found while in the two cities, Seattle and Portland." said Mrs. Harris, “that they lack something, maybe more leaders and they cer tainly could use a strong Urban league and NAACP program. Hats off to Minnesota and some of its leaders.” MISS ALMA CAMP BECOMES BRIDE OF BENJAMIN DAVIS On Friday, Jan 23. Miss Alma Camp, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Camp, 523 Carroll Ave., was married to Mr. Benjamin Davis, at an informal wedding at the home of the bride's parents. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Jerome Del Pino, pastor of Cam phor Memorial church. Miss Eula Camp attended her sister as maid of honor. Mr. Henry Jones was the groom’s best man. The bride was gowned in a pink and white off shoulder dress, with a corsage of white gardenias and pink roses. Miss Eula Camp wore a blue ankle length frock trimmed in white with a corsage of white gardenias and red roses. A reception followed the cere mony with about 70 guests at tending. The home was beautifully decorated with vases of jonquils, gladiolas and Camillas. The newlyweds received many beautiful and useful gifts. Heroine Of Fire Receives Award Yvonne Bell, daughter of Mrs. Rosemary Bell, 1050 Bryant Ave. N.. recieved a good conduct medal and a dozen roses from the Minneapolis Fire Department, for saving the lives of her three cousins in a fire at 68 Royalston Ave. N. on Jan. 3 Yvonne is eight years old and is in the third grade at Grant school. Additional Social and Personal Nows Minneapolis Leave For Home: Mrs. Cecil Giscombe, wife of Dr. Giscombe, chief medical examiner for the armed forces in Minnesota left for their home in Dayton, Ohio Tuesday. Prior to coming to Min neapolis Capt. Giscombe spent a year in Korea and was practicing in Dayton before he went in to the army. He will be discharged the latter part of this month and will resume his practice in Day ton.
