An opportunity is here offered for joining a veteran regiment, and receiving the ben efits that result therefrom. Qoaav.—If St. Paul has to come to St. 'Cloud now to purchase staple articles, how will it be when our railroad is built to Lake Superior A few days since, E. M. Tobay sold a St. Paul firm fifty barrels of dried applet, and is prepared to supply that city with similar irticles when it stands in need. An. QUIET.—Indian matters are perfectly quiet throughout this portion of the State. There is no uneasiness among the frontier settlers, and no manifestations of incur mion from the Indians. The out-posts are, Tiowever, all well garrisoned, and every pre caution is taken to preserve the present fa vorable condition of affairs. SriaiTCAL.—The ghosts of innumera ble dead turkeys have been flitting around for the past two or three days while 'doubtless the few living ones that remain are thanking their stars that Christmas oomes but once a year. FAIB.—The Aid Society of the Episco pal church held a fair and festival at Bro ker's Hall on Tuesday evening, which was productive both of material benefit for the society and a good time for those who were present. It is seldom that much enjoyment 'is derived from s«vk gatherings, but this waa an exception. Every arrangement for comfort was admirably made and an appreciation of this was manifested by a liberal patronage. The fortune-teller, post oflea, grab bag aad faacy table* all brought In large returns, while the supper fully suppUed the heavy and continuous demands that were made on it. The ladies wish us to thank the oitiaens for their liberality those who assisted them, far their kindness, and especially Messrs. Placet Tattle and Abel for their excellent music furnishe! du ring the evening. While doing so, w* must any that the principal portionof the credit is duo their own energy. The entire proceeds amounted to 9249, a portion of which sum will be used in liquidating a debt against che church. Or/a people are fortunate in having so good a dentist as Dr. Upham. He has a good practical knowledge of his profession, and is capable of giving general satisfac tion. Application having been nude to tbo War Depart' ment of the United States for leave to have each town* ehip ia the State accredited, tm agninit the ensuing draft of the militia on the 6th of January, 1804, with the whole number of volunteers that have been mus tered into the United States service whilst being le gal residents of such town. In anticipation of a fa vorable answer to our application, and in view of the near approach of the time designated for the cora mencemeat of the draft- It it» recoawnded as follows: The Board of Supervisors of every town, the Com mon Council of each city, and the Aldermen of each Ward in any dty desiring that their respective dis tricts may receive fan credit as above indicated, will forward by mail, or other safe conveyance, to this Department, a fnll and complete list of all volunteers, who, being legal residents of such town, city or ward, have enlisted or been appointed into the United States service since the making up of tbo returns in pursuance of General Orders No. 42, series of 1882 from thisDepartment. Such lists must show explicit ly, asfaras possible, the company and regiment in which each volunteer enlist or appointed, and contain an exposition of the number of those who enlisted in the 1st Regiment Mounted Rangers previous to the making up of the returns under General Orders No. 42 of last year. Such list must be verified by the oath of at least one member of the Board of Supervisors, Common Council, or Alderman, or some person who' acted un der then* direction in which latter case, the same •tut contain an additional verification by a member of tack Board of Supervisors, Common Council, or Al dermen,tothe eiTect that such- person had been'duly appointed to act by the Board, and that he beftoves the list, as made out, to be true and correct. Such list much befiledin this office at the earliest day practicable.
