If a majority of the votes thus fjiven shall be for a Convention, the Gov ernor shall, in the month of April, one thousand eight hundred and forty-five, order an election to be held at the sever al pla' os of voting in this State, on the first Monday in August, one thousand c;.sbl hundred and forty-five, to elect del t;;ates to said Convention; which elec tion shall, in ail respects, be governed by the existing laws regulating elections; an I the persons elected shall, each, re ceive a certificate thereof accordingly. 7. Each Senatorial district shall' tnd is hereby authorised to elect double the number to serve in said Convention, which said ilistiicl shall be entitled by Ii'.w to elect to the Senate of this Slate at tha tine of said election: and any person, eligible to a seat in the House of Repre sentatives of this State, shall be eligible to a scat in the Convention. S. The person who shall be elect ed, according to the provisions of this act shall, on the third Monday of No vember, 1843, meet and assemble at the City r.f Jefferson, in general convention, and shall have power to form and propose a ncv Constitution for this State. 5 D. The Convention shall juJe its o'.vn privileges and elections, and the members thereof shall have all the priv ileges to which members of the General Assembly are entitled, and shall be al lowed the same compensation; and said Convention shall have power to appoint sucii oiiii-crs r.nu eivc Uiem such com pensation as may be deemed right, atu: aid compensation shall be obtained in the same manner as the members and of ficers of the General Assembly arc al lowed and paid. t 10. In cases of contested elections Jo the convention, the contending candi dates shall pursue the same course and be governed by the same rules ?.s are now prescribed by law in contested elections to the Legislature of this State. 11. If a vacancy shall occur in the convention, the same shall be filled in tha same manner as prescribed by law for filling vacancies of the Legislature of this Mate. 12. The constitution formed by the convention shall be depositod in the office of the secretary of state; and a copy ol the same shall by the Governor, be caus ed to be published in such manner as said convention shall direct. I 13. On the first Monday in Au gust, 18-1G, at the several election pre cincts in t'ois state, the judges thereof shall cause two columns to be opened: headed one 'far the constitution,' 'the other, 'against the constitution,' and cause the vote of each voter to be set in the appropriate column, and certify the votes so given to the clerks of the seve ral cwinty courts, who shall certify the tame to the secretary of state, in the same m.mner and with the like restrictions tliat they arc now required to certify the votes given for Governor and Lieuten ant Governor of this state. f 14.
