It u our unpleaaant duty to chronicle one of the most atrocious deeds that has ever been perpetrated in this city, and one that haa invoked the moat intense indignation among all classes of the com munity, and especially among the colored people. At an early hour yesterday morning, there were numerous reports in ci -dilation as to the manner in which Nep. H, Temples had killed his wife. Mayor MeGill summoned a jury of in quest, and after a patient investigation, including an autopsy by Drs. Craft anil Harrington, found as follows: We, the jury empannelled to inquire into the cause of the death of Julia Temples, find that she came to her death by HtrAngulation at the hands of lier husband, ep. S. Temples. B. w. Griffith, P. MrNi.n.L, J. T. Peatkobh, John HaNSBBRRV, E. Bloom, A. Lehman. This finding was, handed to the Dis trict Attorney, and the grand jury be ing session, Temples was, iu a few minutes, indicted for murder. Temples Aral Wrested at an early hour, and lodged in jail, where be affects ignorance as to the manner in which his wife met her death. Tie-facts elicited before the jury ofje inquest are overwhelmingly against him, . and justify the finding. His little girl l.vangelme, about nine years old, testi fied that she and her little brother were in the adjoining room, that she heard her mother plead with her father not to kill her, that she had two children to care for, etc. On her father leaving the house she aroused her brother, who was still sleeping, and on going to their mother's room, found her stretched on tho floor, in her night-dress, her bead toward tho fire-place, and her feet to- ..... ...1 tl... .. r ... r . . nam llic CCI1U.T Ol Hie rOOHl. Rile was then breathing her last. The screams of the children soon alarmed the neigh bors, and it was fortunate for Temples that Alt officer of the law found him be fore the people of bis color realized the enormity of his crime. Tho throat of deceased showed the marks of thumb and fingers, and the lungs were filled with coagulated blood, showing conclu sively that death resulted from strangu lation. The testimony before the jury showed that for some time past Temples has bu n habitually cruel to his wife. On nioiHlMY flirt vrnntnl tn mnkn a payment on their house to the contractor, but he (.Temples) insisted on deferring the pay ment until yesterday noon. And then, there has been considerable feeling against him among a good portion of the patrons of the public school becaueewbile he was A trustee during last term, he persist ed in electing and having retained a teacher with w hom his name was not very creditably associated. On the re organization of the board on the first Momlay of this month, this matter was referred to a committee to investigate. The in vest iira tion tout nlneo nn ai..., , day, and the teacher referred to was al lowed to resign, of which privilege she availed herself. Temples' wife has re peatedly rcmonstated against his infidel ity to her, and this, and whatever dif ferences they may have had about the payment for their home, determined him to commit the awful deed which has so shocked the community. It appears that Temple and his brother-in-law Meredith nre employed on the new Government building, and they have usually left home about six o'clock every morning. (It has been the duty of Temples to Call the roll of the laborers, and it was after roll call yesterday morn ing, that he went home, and while there killed his wife in the manner stated. He went back to tho building and resumed work, and while there was arrested. He protests his innocence, and will have an early opportunity of endeavoring to prove it. -- Feges'Oil lias never failed to route out all Rheumatic pains when properly applied. In the siege of Troy, Appollo eneouraged the Trojans to be valiant auainst the Greeks. by saying: "The mighty Achilles does not light to-day." It would seem as if death had been bidding disease to make its great inrtiatis upon men. nv saving: "Hunts Remedy is out of the" market." But the Trojans found to their cost, that the mighty Achilles osnie to the field, slew their great est champions, and made short work of the buttle. And Hunt's Remedy, as an Achilles against kidney and liver diseases, has taken the field, and is making short work of all such ailments. Hundreds of testimonials from All quurters are coining in as to the the might of this champion medicine. Not surer was the sword of Achilles than is this powerful, yet peaceful, remedy in battle form, as it wages war against dropsy, urin ary and kidney complaints, and overcomes.
