Weep not for wlut m past.
Willi vuin oral fruitless tears.
Hut husband well thy strength,
To serre thy rr mint? years.
la noble deeds, not idle prior,
Let thy sad spirit find relief,
Weep not for what is past,
Though every passing day,
Home pathway should disclose
Where thou hast gone esiray;
Tfars will but dim thy feeble sight,
They Ret no wandering footsteps right.
Weep not for what is past,
Though in the dark domain,
The forms thu loved'stare bound
By adamantine chain.
Tbe lost to earth to life are born
Rejoice to hail their natal morn.
What doth the grave enfold,
That there thy thoughts should turn?
Colder the clay beneath
Than monumental urn,
Be strong thy soul should never be
Tims fettered to mortality.
The past that narrow span
What should it be to thee!
The longest earthly life .
Is but mau's infancy.
The spirit should all chains despise,
Thy future hath no boundaries.
Then weep not for the past,
No tears of blood can bring,
One wasted moment back,
Or stay time's onward wing.
Pour not thy soul's best life away
Begin anew to live to-day
Jonathan's visit to a I'rinUn?
Did you ever go down to the printer.
And see all them "devils" at work!
I declare it beats all to lliuters
Mother's fuss when we kill our pork.
Them fellers, they stand right up straight,
And pick up little pieces of lead,
StocK. in little cubby holes, thicKer I'll batw
Than seeds in our big parsnip bed.

Well Said. We find the following
touching allusion to the drunkard's
wife iu a well written article on Winter,
in a late IianjKir WLifr:
"Uut there is one on whose sinking
heart the thoughts of dreary winter hear
with more than ocean surge the drunk
aril's wife! Alas! the beauties of sum
mer have lost the power to change back
into life her broken and wasted energies.
The dee fountain of her heart have
long since swept away, and burned in
one common grave, all the bright antici
pations of bliss that shone on her ear
ly life. With what deep and dark fore
bodings does ;he gathering pall of win
ter envelope her desponding soul.
What is there of earthly good that she
can call her own? Of what avail to her
is the sympathy of friends! It is but
the twinkling light of far distant stars
that shine, it is true, but their bright
jiess cannot wsrm into life a soul bereft
of its long cherished and life giving
sun. To her the luminary of her ear
ly days has set, and a dark ness that, in
sad reality, may be felt, is the portion
of her cup."
CiurponAL. The word Chapporal
occurs in the news from Texas which
we publish this morning. As that is ra
ther a new word with our readers, and
us it may occur again, and is important as
illustrating the "scat of war," we think
it proper to say that a Chapporal is a
term applied to a species of evergreen
thicket, composed of the musquit bush
matted with vines. It generally grows
about six or seven feet high. The
whole country between Nueces Kiver
and the Rio Grande, is more or less cov
ered by this chapporal, interspersed with
salt lakes. There is very little fresh wa. !
ter or grass to be had in any portion of
me wnoie intermediate distance, averag
ing one hundred and fifty miles wide.
Philad. U. S. Gazelle.
Some of the Locofocos think that, if
there is to be a war with Mexico, the
Whigs ought to do all tho fighting
They seem to argue thus: "We slole
Texas, and the Whigs should do what
ever is necessary to keep the plunder."

For publishing lit the town of Kosciutha, At

lc entitled the
KOSCIUSKO CIHMICLE.
The United St.ites of America is a great
country the State of Mississippi a great
State the county of Attala a great county
and the Town of Kosciusko, no doubt,
would be a vn-x Town, was it not for the
simple facts that the seat of government has
not yet been removed to said town that
Big Black has not yet been cleared out, so
that stea'ii-boats can navigate it up to a
point opposite said town that the Jack
son Iwvlroad has m t yet been extended
on, through Canton, to said town and
more particularly, that at this time there is
no newspaper published in said town,
through which these projects can be laid
before this great peopje. IS'ow, it is a well
established fact, beyond the point of con
tradiction, that we are a great people
who live in this great country State
county and that we expect great works to
be aceomp'ished seme time or other, by
somebody or other, or somebody else
and that Kosciusko woud be a great place
if these great improvements were but just
completed, thereby bunging it, as it were,
within a stone's throw of the Bast 'Indies,
Australia, China, Siberia, Urecnljind, Kam-
schatka and the J'i rth Pole.
Therefore, be it known to all men, wo
men, children and grasshoppers, that the
.subscriber, yi order to facilitate these great
undertakings, and prevent their being nip
ped in the bud, and more particularly
to turn an honest penny for himself,
proposes to commence the pubieation
of a little newspaper iu said town, on
Saturday, the third day of January, Anno
Domini one thousand eiuhf hundred and,
lbity six, lobe styled the Koscic&ko Ciino

per weekly, until these great objects shall
be accomplished, should the Lord be pleas

forms. Aha, on excellent Tonic in Dys
pepsia, Palpitation of the Heart, Loss of
-tppetite, Neuralgia, Nervous and other
diseases which arise from a weak and de
bilitated condition of the system.
The success of these pills in curing in a
few hours, where all other remedies have
failed, nnd that too, in cases of twelve and
eighteen months' standing, warrants the
assertion that, if taken according to the
directions, they are a certain cure. .Along
list of .certificates in proof of their infalli
bility might be added, but those upon the
directions are deemed sufficient. Try them
and be convinced that they are the most ef
fectual and most certain, and the very
best remedy ever offered to the public, to
insure a permanent and lasting cure.
Haiti MoiiK, Dee. 12, 1815.
Having for several years past suffered
under repeated attacks of chills and fever,
especially during the fall and spring
months, I was induced to try various rem
edies, but nothing seemed to be effectual,
until I tried Dr. Tyler's ague and fever
pills, which stopped the chills before I had
taken half the box, This was over a year
since, nnd I have remained perfectly free
from any symptoms of a return to this
most loathsome disease.
GEO. M. W.4IT.
Baltimoue, Dec. 15, 1843.
Dr. G. K. Tyler: Dear sir: It is with
great pleasure- that I announce to you a
perfect restoration of iny health by the use
of your invaluable pills. I had been suf-
icring Iroin Lhills and rever ior eighteen
or twenty months, during which time I
took live bottles of B-iwand's Tonic Mix
ture, Dr. Sherman's Fever and .Ague Lo
zenees. Dr. Love's Vegetable Blizir. Kee-
e' j tier's Powders, Barks, Quinine, Thompso-
nian Medicines, .Arsenic, Herbs, and in lact
almost all the popular remedies Is could
hear of; and yet received no lasting benefit.
The chills were stopped by Quinine and
other things, but after a few days or weeks
they would return again as bad or worse
than before. Towards the last, the chills
came only every third day, and these were
followed by fever of such severity as to af
fect my reason, and it was found necessary

paroxysm passed off- At last I procured a
box of your pills, and only took four of
them; this so completely stopped the chills,
that I have never had a return of them up
to this time, (nearly two years,) and near a
year of this time was passed in the same
place where I first caught the disease.
That my case is not one cured by chance,
is proven from the fact that four pills out
oflhe.same box cured Capt. Ueu ben Banks,
so cliectuaily that he has never had the

IF there was ever a medicine that merited
the. public praise for the good it has
done in relieving the sick and the distres
sed, it certainly must be Peters' Vegetable
Pills : it would take a volume to contain all
the complimentary evidence in their favor.
Those who have once tried these pills
know how to appreciate their good quali
ties. To those who know nothing of their
excellence as a medicine the proprietor
would submit the following letters and cer
tificates :
TESTIMONIALS OF CURES.
Nad there been but space sufficient, the
proprietor might insert hundreds of letters
under this head, but as it is, he can only
find room for a few of the shortest.
