Huott Gkocwiy Co. liilitor of the lU'.irnii - Yesterday. Wednesday. June lath, was announced ai "Chihlrcn's Day''1 atX-I'rairie, and it certainly , not miscalled. Kven thing was propitious, the day dawned clear ami beautiful! not a cloud in the sky, cool and inviji, rating breezes were blowing across the prairies, and all nature seemed to join with the hospitable citizens of that neighborhood in bidding all welcome. All parts of our county and of that part of Pickens that we claim as a part 1 ot aoxnbea were represented. At an early hour the church, which hml h..,. decorated by fair hands with beautilul flowers for the occasion, was filled to overflowing and standing room was at a premium. Promptly at 11 o'clock, af ter a beautiful song by the choir, the worthy superintendent, Hon. Walter Price, began the entertainment by in voking God 's blessing in a most eloquent prayer, and for nearly two hours we were delightfully entertained with reci tations by the children of the Sunday School, interspersed with beautiful songs by the choir. Having no programme I cannot go into the details as I would like, mit suffice it to tay it was excel lent and all the children did splendidly and reflected great credit on Bro. Price and his co-workers, and-they have rea son to be proud of the magnificent work they are doing in training these little ones for Jesus. As all tho children did so well I can not particularize, and then I had a lot of children in that band who call me "Pappy" and of course I could not be impartial. I expect if I were forced t9 say which one did the beet I would be like Undo Josh Pant at the Fair once when Jack Holman was awarded the saddle for b dng the best boy rider, He said, I expict Jack rode tho best but had I been on that committee I would have given the saddle to Will or Albert. So I say it is high praise wdien I say the chililreu all equalled my grandchildren. Just before the close Bro. Prico called on Bro. Lewis, the loyed pastor,; to make a few remarks, nnd I thought to myself, wo are in for it now we will bo hungry when he turns us loose but Walter knew his man, for Bro. Lewds made us a most excellent talk and quit when he got through, Bro. Price then called on Mr. Joshua Stevens and Un cle JobIi made one of his characteristic talks, endorsing everything that bad been said and done, ami enjoined the stewards to be diligent in making col lections for all church purposes, and said he, never subscribed anything but told his pastor and deacons to always call on him never mind his frowns hut to make him pay what they thought ho ought to . When he sat down Bro. Price thanked him and said their church needed a little repairs and he would call on him nt once. Bro. htevens quickly replied that ho was a Baptist and the Methodist must help themselves, so I hope Bros. Grace and D nipree will beat this in mind. Big-hearted John Cunningham was there and had told mo that I owed the young people of tho county an apology for sayirg that we conld not raise any in ire bovs and iirls like the ones of 'til and '03. So 1 asked Bro. Price to al low me to state that I had made that remaiK before I had attended Children's Day at X Prairie, and after seeing what ttie peop'e of X-Prairie could do in that line I was willing to tako it all back. And why not? These children are the descendants of the people who made glorious history in '(il-'fl). the same blood Hows in their veins and I am sat Mied, should like occasion arise they would add fresh laurels to the brows of o'd Noxubee. , After the benediction by Bro. Lewis we were all invited out to dinner, and such a dinner. X-Prairie has been noted for her basket dinners ever since the first chinch was built there, way hack in the fifties, but I did not think that there was ever one there before thai excelled this one. Her people are proverbial for their hospitality and well did thev maintain it on Wednesday. Everything was there to tempt the most fastidious and in such quantities that while there were over :)00 persons pre- tiw.r w,n noiiL'h left to feed as manv more.
