The reason women write such letters
to the Lydia E. Pinkham Medicine Co.
and tell their friends how they aro

Vegetable Compound has brought health
and haoiJinoss into their lives. Freed
from their illness they want to pass the

WASHINGTON STATE
RATIFIES SUFFRAG
SENATE OF FAR WESTERN STATE
GIVES UNANIMOUS APPROVAL
TO PROPOSITION,
DELAWARE WILL ACT SOON
Action By Legislature of Latter State
Will Determine if W.omen Can Par
ticipate in Coming Presiden
tial Election.
Olympia. Wash. Ratification of the
proposed suffrage amendment to the
federal constitution was completed by
the Washington legislature, when the
Senate unanimously passed a resolu
tion ratifying the amendment. The
resolution had previously beeu passed
by the House. Washington was the
thirty-fifth state to ratify the amend
ment. Dover, Del. Whether women will
participate as voters in the forthcom
ing presidential primaries and in No
vember election as provided in the
proposed amendment to the federal
constitution, rests with 52 hard-headed
lawmakers of Delaware. The special
session of the state legislature, called
by Gov. Townsend, to ratify the
amendment.
The outcome of the fight as it
stands is a guess. The problem is
greatly complicated by tl.o fight over
the proposed new code for school in
tho state. Had the resolution for
ratification heen offered and voted on
the first day it would probably have
been defeated. That is conceded by
ever one hero, even the most pro
suffrage adherents admitting they
could have got nowhere had they
started with tho convening of the ses
sion. lint as in rdl fights of this char
acter, time is an essential element, the
suffrage leaders, including the gover
nor, hope to he able to iron out the
situation and win. It may lie two
weeks before tho fight is won or lost.
The influence of I'nited Slates Sen
ator L. lleisler Ball of Delaware and
Congressman Layton, Delaware's rep
resentative at Washington, is to be
used in behalf of suffrage.
Should Delaware fail to ratify it
will upset tho suffrage plans for par
tieipating in the presidential pri
maries. Thirty-six states are needed.
Thirty-five have ratifed. With Dela
ware acting favorably the thirty-six
states would be assured, hut if it fails
there will be no more legislative ses
sions in which the suffragists have a
chance of winning before next winter
