Auxiliary societies were formed in nearly, or quite all the different Districts in the Nation, and meet ings were hold at least twice a year. Tho annual meeting of the Na tional Society, was always hold at Talcfuah during the session of the Cherokee Council. (As was also, the annual meeting of the Cherokee Bible Society.) Meetings tlic sum mer of overy year were great occa sions. Barbecued meats wore pre pared on the grounds, slacks of bread and pies, were made ready with any other good tilings "that could be carried, Long tablos were arranged under the trees, and the rhnlo crowd, often hundreds of people, were invited to dinner. The best speakers were engaged and music, the.bcstio be obtained at the different times, from a fiddle to a brass bond, the best in the ar my tlione days, which tho comman der of this post was so , kind a3 to lend for a number of our temper-. ance meetings, and singing from a little boy eight or ten years of ago, (Dr. "Worcester's son,) who sang a solo with, bis own violin accompa niment, to tho songs which were sung by a choir of nineteen soldiors, madetlic old Riley Chapel ring and echo again. Surely' qs who heard, and had any love for music, could never forget the beautiful harmony of those well trained voices. Often the seraphim was packed in its box, which screwed on to the pecan-wood springs of a two-wheeled 'rough and rotuly," served as a suat wncrc our father took his place with one child by his side. Then with two or three of his children on horseback, he would start to hold temperance meotiugs in other districts. Meet ings of several hundred people went on different occasions. Wag ons would go around and gathor up tho children, sometimes "with a team of four mules, twenty-five children in the wagon with banners flying, singing and slroutlng: "Come Join Our Temperance Army." Or ifwc could not gst the mules, the old oxon must take us, when wc would start before daylight so as to get to the place of meeting in time. On the 4th, of July 1S36, (as the dear old Cherokee almanac says,) 125 children marched in pro cession with their banners. In ad dition to the larger banners before used, wore the new and beautiful bannerets premised last year, and now furnished to every child in the procession. The principle de vice on the banner is a boy and girl, stamping a rattlesnake to death with the motto: Lct the monster die!" The rattlesnake is of course understood to represent alcohol. "which bitcth like a porpent, and stingeth like ah adder." Three years later, July 4th, 1S59, 1G3 lit tle soldiers of the Cherokee Cold Water Army marched togother at their meeting. But .Alas! it was the last mealing. The Cherokee Cold Walor Army died then, and has never been brought to life, but with the procession at that last meeting, was seen the president of tins AVoinan's Christian Temper ance Union.
