Guaran teed. P. Shanahan. The Presbyterian church was crowd ed Sunday night, the occasion being the TV. C T. U. mecting, addressed by Rev. Forrest. The people were pleased with the address and the ladies got a very good collection so the meeting may be regarded as a success from all stand points. A man named Ferno, aged thirty five or forty, and a chihl named Vesta Rider came down from Springfield Monday and were married. Ferno swore the girl was an orphan and was sixteen years of age. Going home it is stated tiiat he bought a half fare ticket for his wife. Cheatham's Tasteless Chill Tonic is put up in 50 aud 75 cent sizes. You pay your money and take your choice. But whatever size you buy, you can rest assured that you are getting the worth of your money. It never fails to cure chills; it is guaranteed to do so. P. Shanahan. Dr. Day was lamenting Sunday be cause the new Methodist church would not be completed in time to accommodate two prominent wed dings which arc close at hand. (jffiriE CONGREGATIONAL people P extended a formal call to their pastor, Mr. Forrest, last week and it was accepted. They are now engaged in moving the church to the south side of the parsonage lot, away from th e stench of the alley, aud by Sun day of next week will be in the new location. Some painting and other Improvements are contem plated which will materially Im prove the appearance of the structure. ORKINGMEN do not always receive the consideration due. The following note was handed into this office and if its publication will reduce the embarrassment complained of-we shall be glad: "Why is it some men engaged in business which brings them more or less cash every day will put a working man oft from time to time, for months perhaps, for the piti ful sum of a dollar or two, when they well know that the man needs it?" "Pay your bills, even though the amount be small, for every little helps enable our worklngmcn to live." T3 AST SATURDAY, at Clarcmore, il Dr. E. B.Frayser bought a Cher okee farm, (Wm. P. McClcllan's) at TJ . S. marshal's sale. McClellau and Pyatt & Kirby, two citizens of Arkan sas, wcrc engaged in farming and stock raising some years ago and among the products raised was a $7000 lawsuit. A judgment was secured a gainst Mc Cleilan in the Muscogee court, affirm ed in the appellate court, and Judge Stuart directed the sale, stating the sale must be to a Cherokee citizen and that he would maintain the purchaser in his rights to said place. This is a rare though not the only case of the kind; some years ago the marshal sold a hotel at Clarcmore under similar circumstances. The price paid by Dr. Fayser was 81200 and a law suit in the Cherokee court was promised him. 0 TTORNEY JOE MERItELL is icl in custody of the sberiil of Del aware district charged with a very grave offense. Monday night Judge T. M. Bufflngton, who had the key to the office of the clerk of Delaware dis trict during Mr. Duncan's absence, noticed from the street that a window in the room was open and about the same time Mr. Mcrrell was seen com ing down the back stair case. On go ing into the office the papers were found scattered over the floor and at once it was surmised thatMcrrcll had been in there. An officer was limited up, Mcrrell taken Into custody and in his possession was found the will and other papers In the estate of Dr. Pol son, who died a few years since at Southwest City. Mr. Mcrrell said he found the documents on the step of the building, but the grand tin w ' be asfeed to investigate the ease KJYSON, If thou wilt receive ray -nords, J- and hide my commandments with thso: So that thou Incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; Tea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; If thou seekett her as silver, and searchest for her as for bid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the fear ol the Lord, and find the knowledgo of God. For the Lord glvcth wisdom; out of his mouth conieth know ledge and understanding. The schools of this country opened this week, aud it is a pleasure to note that in all sections the attendance is Increasing over former years. Young ladies have been turned away from the female seminary at Tahlequah in considerable numbers and have come homo, for lack of room, scholars here tofore attending beiiig given prefer ence. The schools of this city all opened well, with over 200 pupils pre senting themselves the first day, which number lias been materially increased since that time. Vinita appreciates education and its schools probably as much as any other enlightened com munity, but it Is doubted if we even begin to grasp the importance of this blessing Of education which is at our door blessing both to the recipient and to those among whom he lives. "With all our school facilities, plenty as they seem, poverty probably shuts the door of our educational institu tions against a score of children in this town. There have been a few philanthropic individuals who year after year have paid the tuition of some poor children, but these arc not enough. There is no charity which compares with this, which is as endur ing and of value to all, and we hope that more persons will see their way to provide school facilities for those who are too poor to pay. The ladies' missionary societies of any of the churches will take pleasure in point ing out worthy bcncUciarics and see ing that imposition is not practiced, and will proDably provide clothing when necessary. VERY one is on the 'qui vivc"over the fact that the Great Walter L. Main shows are . coming to Vinita Saturday, Sept. 7. This biggest of all big shows has everywhere met with the most enthusiastic reception, and the press of other cities do not hesi tate in proclaiming it the most won derful exhibition ever seen under can vas. In point of novelty or in the number of features, no other amuse ment enterprise can even approach it. Its many exclusive features makes it beyond question the representative big show of the world. It requires fourinassivc trains of especially con- structed cars to transport it from town to town, four of the most thoroughly equipped and handsomely decorated advertisingcarsever built was brought 44itacrvlce to herald itsgnilap-and more thaTrTOTcTnousandpcople cm ployed, besides three hundred of the finest horses ever owned by any amuse ment institution.
