The opening reception, and enter
tainment of the term was held last
evening at Willie Halsell college, and
a fairly good number of the friends
and patrons of the institution were
present.
Members of the board of trustees, a
representative of the citizens of the
town and members of the faculty had
places on the program, to the edifica
tion and entertainment of the guests;
not to mention a very palatable decoc
tion served out of a ponderous cut
glass bo vl by two handsome young
ladles.
. Very properly, the patrons of the
institution were supplied with some
information, as well as entertainment.

tutions in the states, it was the pur
pose to collect all dues in advance, and

The college starts on its fourteenth
year under favorable conditions, and,
like all other educational institutions,
deserves more from the town and com
munity than it will receive in money
or appreciation.
Squirrel Plentiful.
L. B. Campbell, R. J. Wright and
Clyde Douglas went squirrel hunting
yesterday out in Spider hollow. They
say the squirrels are very thick out
there and they succeeded in killing
any number of them. One of the
boys would climb a tree aud make a
noise like a nut wiiile the other two
stood under the tre and knocked the
squirrels down with clubs.
