Bill Murray and Lee Cruce in the opening of the campaign for the gov ernorship, each made the mistake of talking a little too much with the mouth. Murray prophesied a cam paign of villlflcation and slander that would stagger the people of the state and that his chief detractors would be the newspapers, while Cruce opln ed that his character would be assail ed and that he would have to buckle on a pair of revolvers and repair to the field of honor and kill or be killed It Is earnestly hoped the people of Oklahoma and those on the outside will not take the vaporings of these two Oklahoma statemen too seriously. There were no grounds for such sense less talk on the part of either Murray or Cruce. The press of Oklahoma Is Intelligent and conservative and conduct the publicity pari of the cam paign with decency. If the private and public character of Mr. Cruce is as good as all Oklahoma believes It to be he is making an ass of himself by his wild talk about resorting to the Kentucky code. Let the people in the meantime possess themselves in peace. The campaign will not degen erate into a battle and no blood will flow. DeWoody, a special inspector for the department of Justice, arrived in Mus kogee yesterday, for the purpose of conducting an investigation of cer tain charges which have been made against United States Marshal Grant Victor In connection with the dismis sal of Miss Beulah Reynolds, the only woman deputy marshal In the United States. There are two phases of the alle gations. One deals with the right of the marshal to dismiss Miss Reynolds, who was under the civil service un der a blanket order Issued placing the marshal's force under that branch of the government. The other, and the one the inspector seems to be delving into the most, is the charge that the marshal made Improper advances. This, however, is alleged to have oc curred some months ago. The question of the resignation of this deputy has been up since last June at which time a resignation was filed with the marshal. Since that time Miss Reynolds' friends made a fight to prevent her dismissal, alleg ing that she could not be dismissed while she was under the civil service. She has some powerful political friends In the state, and the incident has started a merry row In certain Third floor, over First National Bank Meets 1st and 3rd Tuesday nights.
