Farmers Institute Department Oklahoma City. April 5. The Farm ers' Institute Is practically a new edu cational institution, being only about a quarter of a century old, but young s it is. It is the motive power from wblch revolves the roost progressive farming. We say revolves, for it is not by any means on a standstill, but. Just as the motor power in our cities propels the street car, factory, lights and even the smoothing iron, bo does the board of agriculture and A. &. M. College reach the everyday farmer C. W. I repeat the Institute Is merely a vehicle belonging to the board of agri culture and A. ft M. college for con veying improved agricultural truths to farming people; a disseminator of agricultural Information to those who, without Its aid, will be compelled to seek a living in some other occupa tion. It Is clearly recognized by everyone, from the highest to the lowest, that the tillage of the soil is the natural and moist desirable occupation for men, to which every other Is subsidiary and to which all else must in the end yield, as the first requisite. The Farmers Institute is merely a traveling school of agriculture that teaches the latest and best plans that science and practice have discovered and brings it to the practical farmer In such a way that he cannot forget it and in such a form that he will be able to apply It. It Is the official agent for rural betterment; It stands for rural progress and Improvements', and it brings to the rural community new Ideas and urges upon them the im portance and benefit , to be derived from putting them Into practice. That they need an awakening, It Is not nec essary to argue or prove. The demand for products Is rapidly Increasing, hence we need Increased agricultural practice; what men have done and the methods by which they succeed ed, and thus introduce more economi cal and lucrative methods through rural communities and make known to the farmers the advantage of edu cation for the farmer; to point them to the A. & M. College, the experi ment station, the agricultural depart ment, as reliable sources for informa tion. Then the Woman's Auxiliary Its motto is to make the home so pleas ant and beautiful that the boys and girls will not want to leave the farm for pleasure and enjoyment. We are receiving many inquiries in regard to the Institute work and find a deep Interest manifested in these things which make for a higher and more wholesome country life as well as a more lucrative one. Through the 'Junior Clubs" the A. & M. College hopes to show by practical demonstration which does not interfere with them having another plat in connection with this, to enable them to compete for any prize that may be offered that the farmer should se lect his planting seed with as much care as the stock raiser selects his sires and dams with which to begin a herd.
