Saturday, April 15. THE EXTRA SESSION. Chautauqua fiends are weary, their lives are full of care; the world seems bleak and dreary, and gloom is every where. "Alas," they make confession, "our program's all awry; that dog-gone - extra session has knocked our plans sky high. The stately human wonder whose talks are at! the rage, this year won't paw and thunder upon our help ful stage. Our tents, no more will shel ter his bald and noble head; In Wash ington he'll swelter, aid wish that he were dead. In Washington he'll suffer, and mop his steaming face, the while some cheaper duffer comes here to take his place. Yes,, while he saves the nation, and speaks in thunder tones, some guy of humbler station, will col lar all the bones, Chautauqua fans will languish this summer, that Is sure; but O, the bitter anguish the statesmen must endure. Compelled to earn their wages in, misery and woe, while on Chautauqua stages cheap 'subs' rake in the dough! But let us draw a curtain upon this dismal scene; for programs are' uncertain as visions of long green." Walt Mason. O EASTER LESSON. 1. Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing'the spices which thdjr had prepared, and . certain others with them. 2. And they found the stoue rolled away from the sepulchre. 3. And they entered in, and found not the body of' the Lord Jesus. 4. And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold two men stood by them in shining gar ments. 5. And as they . were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth. they said- unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? 6. He is not here, but is risen. Luke 24-1-6. ' Somehow, the Easter idea is flow- ers and food The new dresses and I hats, of course; but the general idea centers in the table decorations. For the breakfast table, there is nothing I prettier than a growing plant, or a I vase of fresh flowers. Nearly every one can have some green thing grow ling, if they will only begin In time. ' Not every one, however, can have j the Easter lily abloom in all its glory, I because to possess it, one must give j days and months of care to the potted ' bulb.. But it is worth all it costs. For 1 tunately, harclsBus, tulips, . hycinths, j crocuses, and many other flowers can be had at the Easter date, though the cost of hothouse flowers seems un reasonably high. , A very pretty conceit for the table is a piece of looking plass of any shape best suited to the taste or table, covering the edges with fringed tissue paper, or moss, or any suitable greenery, to form a bank, and on the surface of the glass put the little yel low goslings and baby ducks 10 be had at almost any store. Two or three should be sitting on the greenery look ing on. . Another attractive centerpiece is mdde of a large platter on which is put: a Jayer of green moss, or other "grassy" looking material, and little souvenirs wrapped in yellow, white, 'violet and green tissue papers, may be laid. On the market will be found many little baskets, rabbits, eggs, ducks, goslings, and other Easter novelties. Many foods are molded into egg shapes, some of them colored, and others not, while the chief dishes are those with which eggs may be lavishly used, either in cookery or decoration. Watercress, mint, green parsley, let tuce, and many other greens are at this time on the market, and can be used as garnishes. Green pens, brus sel's sprouts, raw or boiled radishes, where one is close to a large 'market, rhubarb, strawberries, and many other fruits may be had at reasonable prices. Oranges are very decorative, and are cheap. DR. G. O. BTJRCH Practice Limited to EYE. EAR. NDSP nH V JM CL-iS" THROAT Eyes Tested and Glasses Fitted 'ffice In Wimer Building Vinita, Okla.
