PEACE D Today is Peace Da May 18, 1899, the I fcrnce" was opened peace con the Hague. Since that time the movement for uni versal peace has made great strides and has been taken up in some form, to some extent, by every civilized na tion of the world. The latest method ol' promoting vi'e i.se of peace is th-ongi instructions in tlie ublic schools. The movement is festered by the American (rool pMSu !.;iKe. L. J. Abbott l:i piesident of tin? Oklahoma branch ol -he American LvMlM, He has adilresbe.l the follow. in letter to The Pre:.? Edinond, Okla., May 14, 1912. May 18th is Peace Day. It was on this day in 1899 that the first peace conference Wq opened at The llagt.e. We are all aware of the great strides the universal peace movement has made since then. A permanent court of arbitration has been established; a world parlitr.ent meets every eight years at The Hague; a capitol in whic hto carry on these activities has been erected it Is known as the Pal ace of Peace. Now when nations fall out they look to The Hague instead of to arms to settle the difficulty. And why not? Here in the United States we have forty-eight states, sep arate and distinct for the most par:. Often they do not agree, but we have no armed frontier, neither do we rush to war to settle our difficulties. Wo have courts in which we have suffi cient confidence on which we rely to adjust our disputes after the cause has been joined. The British Dominions have several governments of like char iot er Canada, Australia, New Zebnd and South Africa, and the very strength of the Germa nenipire is be cause the states of which it is compos, ed no longer fight each other. The reason 1 now address you is to equest tha tat such time in the near future you point out in your valuable piiiihiiition tne significance oi reace Day and what has already been accom plished by the universal peace move ment. It was realized by the ieadets of the second conference that of I 'JUT that to attain universal peace senti ment and public opinion must be be hiud the movement as well as as reas on. The American School Peace Lea gue was the result. It is confidently be jieved that If war is presented in its proper form to the mind of the youth of all nations that by the time the fourth conference meets in 1923 that a war between civilized states will be almost as impossible as a war between Oklahoma and Kansas. For when war Is once stripped of its glamour and false ideals it will cease to exist. It seems almost an impossible task to stop war, but it is .not at all im possible I fthe leaders of thought in each community will do their part. Will you use your influence by say ing a word for Universal Peace on this occasion? Very truly, L. J. ABBOTT. As to Calling Cards. "What are the proper calling cards?" "Threes or upward are con sidered very good." Louisville Courier-Journal. Argument Defined. An Ufa meat is an effort or two peo ple to keep each other from finding out the truth. Life. ELT BAD ALL THE TIME Shellhorn Lady Suffered a Greal Deal, But Is All Right Now. Shellhorn, Ala. In a letter from this place, Mrs. Carrie May says: "A short time ago, I commenced to have weak tpells and headaches. I felt bad all the time, and soon grew so bad I couldn't stay up. I thought I would die. At last my husband got me a bottle of Cardui, and it helped me; so he got some more. After I had taken the second bottle, I was entirely well. I wish every lady, suffering from womanly trouble, would try Cardui. It Is the best medicine I know of. It did me more good than anything I ever used." .
