After working the pumps for several days, the crew were on the point of de- A Fight Ensued. sertlng the bark and taking to the boats when a number of small boats came alongside, and the occupants of these boats, numbering more than 100, armed with guns and revolvers, board ed the Genee, and ordered the crew to surrender. An attempt was made by the crew to scuttle the Genee, and a fight ensued in which the defenders were badly worsted. They were then ordered Into the small boats, without water or provisions. After rowing aimlessly for two days, the crew of the Genee made land at one of the smaller Bahamas and hoist ed a signal of distress, which was seen by the Allemanla1! lookout Seaside Resorts In England English Town Has History of 2,000 Years Ago. Un der tbe shadow of the castle is the old Mint house, under whose roof Edward VI. has slept. About Ave miles away, on a clear day, can be seen the mellow brick ruins of the castle of Hurstmon ceau, one of the finest specimens of medieval brick ruins in England, and dating from the reign of Henry VI. Besides its advantageous proximity to these historical spots Bexhill has an extraordinary charm and individ uality of its own, quite unlike most south coast seaside places. MEAT SHIFTS DOG FROM BOY Mad Shepherd's Attack Stayed Just Long Enough to Rescue Lad From Possible Death. Coatesville. Pa. The fact that he was delivering meat for his father saved James, twelve-year-old son of William Snyder, from the fangs of a mad shepherd dog which had start ed to attack the lad. When the dog sprang at young Snyder the boy with quick wit seized an order from his express wagon and tossed it to the raving animal. This diverted the dog's attention to the load of meat, but Instead of eating any he merely went Into canine hysteria over it. Albert Flahardy. a clerk In a Main street store, saw the boy's plight and with a brick struck the dog in the head, and Charles Dunleavy, a con tractor, ended the animal's life with a pick. Before attaching the boy the dog ran amuck and bit a number of other dogs. RIVER MAY DESTROY LAKE Missouri Stream Eating Land Away From Summer Resort Body of Water. St. Joseph. Mo. Lake Contrary, a summer resort of the middle west, is threatened with destruction by the Missouri river. The liver has eaten the boltonf land away within BOO feet of the lake. In one day 300 feet of land was taken Into the river. If the river consumes the remainder of the land It will drain the lake. The federal government recently of fered $75,000 to protect the lake If this city would raise a like amount, but the city failed In its attempt.
