the Southern Pacific roundhouse here

yesterday morning. Its origin Is attributed
to spontaneous combustion of oil
saturated with waste In the machine
shop ut the northwestern end of the
brick structure. -The Interior and roof
had received two coats of fresh pal t o i
Saturday and to this fact Is ascribed
the ijeneral bursting Into flames of the
upjjcr portion pf the, structure.

oil tanks full, one of them having n

effort was made to move engine 120S

Of the ten engines, four lire destroyed

cable-laying steamer, which Is one of
the largest ships nlloat, will cany a
sulllcicnt amount of cable In one cargo '
for the laying of the longest line, from

Midway Island to Guam. The line from
San Frnnclsco to Honolulu, which Is to
be laid before the end of the year, will J

cost of the completed cable from San
