Mr. Yantia resides east of the Cascade Mountains. , Mr. Wagner, just from the mines on ‘Frezer'e river, (at Fort Hope,) stated that, from all the information he could collect from reliable sources, the route via the Sno qualmio pm was the only practicable route, and that a gentleman of the Hudson Bay Tompany, who had travelled by that. route ifrom Fort Nisqnally (near Steilacoom,) ‘flftecu times, asserted that the Snoqualmie pass was the only practicable route to Thompson’s river, and advised all American: lto go that route imlead by [ln way of Frazer ricer, stating that there was good grazing all the way for animals. Sl'l.l.l\'.\.\', San Francisco, forl files of papers from the Atlantic Statesi From our files we glean the following. intelligence : A new and serious difficulty has sudden ly, and lo the astonishment of every one, occurred between the United States and, Great Britain. The British cruisers on the West India station have received or ders to board and search all vessels on the coast of Cuba, with a View to the detec-, tion and capture of the African slavers en-i taring or leaving the ports of Cuba. The assertion of such a prctonsion by England in regard to the vessels of the United States, has been repeatedly declared to be just cause 0! war, and lies, in fact, led to one war—that of 1812. The actual exer cise oi the pretansion in a most odious and insolent manner, not only upon the coast and in the harbors of Cuba, but in our owu territorial waters, and upon vessels engaged in the coasting trade, is on enormity that is intolerable, Congress and the Exeen‘ live are still without official information on the subject, though a dozen cases in which our vessels engaged in lawful trade have been fired into, brought to, and searched by Brltish cruisers. The Senate has called for the facts, and stops iIIV3 been taken to procure them in an acceptable form'— Meanwhlle, the President has lost no time in adopting measures to protect our vessels in the Gulf of Mexico, and some of our merchant vessels will also go out armed. The United States frigate Colorado has been dispatched to the Gulf Willi stringent orders on the subject, and a considerable naval force will be brought together at once, in the Gulf. A collision, therefore, seems now to be inevitable. WThe Washington correspondent of Foruy‘s Prm, says: "Oregon will be ad mitted to-morrow, (May 19th.)
