The berry is of large sjzi\ the bush hardy to the very tips, und so prolific a bearer that on the some bush were blossoms and fruit in every stage of growth to ripe berry. Ho also had some line specimens of the Russian apples of which he is one of the largest grow ers in the country. There are many farmers all about us who ought to put out these vari ties of fruit in place of what they are growing. These trees are universally hardy enough to stand our severest win ters, while the fruit is of line texture and flavor and grow as large as is profitable or desirable. Another son of Esculapius has set tled down iu Creseo for the practice of medicine and surgery. J. A. ]1»«r rett, M. 1). C. The Clear Lalte band and snm. of tho performers at the musical festival now being held at Cleat Lake have been giving concerts in a few of the neighboring towns, and we are informed that there is a pros pect that they may favor Creseo with a performance after the festi val at the Luke is over. If they do we shall have a rare musical treat. Wm. Brierly, two miles west of own, has built a substantial farm house this summer into which he has moved. Located upon high rolling prairie, its range of view of the surrounding country is delight ful. The house is furnished from cellar to garret in good substantial nmnnei, painted and grained throughout. Mr. Brierly has one of the best farms in the county, con ducts it successfully, and with a good comfortable home is prepared to enjoy its comforts. 8. L. Cary of Jennings, Louisiana, is visiting in Creseo and other points of the county. He comes as a standing advertisement of the healthl'uluess of that locality for noithern people, and presents as perfect a picture of health as can seen in any climate. He reports the Howard county people there, heal thy. happy and prosperous, and as satisfied as the same number in any other country. The dissatislled, are to be found eveiy where. A drive through Orleans township last week gave us a most encourag ing hope for the crop outlook iu that region. Grass and hay with the large stock interests of Northern Iowa, has become an important fac tor with its people. Ot these a most abundant crop has been bar rested in excellent condition. Corn prom ises as well as we have ever seen at this season. Small grain is likewise a splendid crop, but somewhat bea ten down by the recent storm, but will give u bounteous harvest. This section is largely devoted to dairy ing and line stock, the Jerseys, Hoi steins and Short-horns being well represented on the various farms of the town, intermixed with hundreds of natives and grades. No more beautiful or productive country lies out door anywhere than this section of Orleans within this scope. The dinner hour found us at the ample board of G. Watros, and unles. we at* entirely beside ourself we did ample justice to its bill of fare. Iu this region are several orchard? loaded with splendid fruit, aud we have to thank Mr. Watros for a pail full of luscious apples gathered from his orchard. In this neighborhood are several new barns of large size, erected the present and past year A very large one by Mr. Gooeher last year, and by John Cameron and also bv Mr. Watros this year. That of the latter is 72 feet long, of pro portionate width und height, with all the modern improvements.
