I also find the sum of $lb' t)0 acknowledged to have been re ceived for recording. Why does not the Clerk give the items of salaries paid? Why mix up the sala ries paid the county officers in the aggre gate and thus prevent the citisenB com paring the salary paid with the amount of services rendered respectively? Is it be cause they do not wiuh us to know how the money goes 1 I know not what the salary of the Treas urer and Recorder is, but I believe the petnotied u. e.rry freight or pauenger* from Keo- Deputy Recorder here receives $800 ner k without the •tricieat compliance w tih the recuia-! year, ana yet the aggregate proceeds of the Recorder's,office (here and at FWt Madison) amounts to $^53 05! What should we think of a merohant who employed two clerks, to one of whom .he paid IS00 per jear, when the aggre gate proceeds of their labors was $253 It is patent to every person at all con versant with county matters, that every incumbent of the office of Recorder, who received the fees for his services, realized a fortune at it, but no sooner is the Re corder paid a salary, and the county re ceives the fees, than the county is brought in debt. It may be possible that the discrepancy is susceptible of explanation and that have found ajnaro'snest if ao, I, in ocnu ®oo with others of my fellotv-citixsns, will be glad to acknowledge the corn, W.
