—Officer John Pearson returned to
the city last evening from Des Moines
after delivering his prisoner, Georga
Smith, the army desertar to the offi
cers in Des Moines.
—Unitarian ladies' bazaar and chick

—The body of Mrs. Zol Thomas was
sent to LaBelle, Mo., this morning at
12:35 o'clock, accompanied by her
husband. Funeral services and inter
ment will be held there.

—A large force of men are at work
on Main street today cleaning oft the
muddy crossings and cleaning the gut
ters. The streets all along are being
put ina presentable condition. South
Third street was given a good clean
ing today by the workers.
—Quincy Journal: Saturday the con
tract for the construction of the Nie
kamp bridge, in Melrose township, was
awarded to Van Dusen & Turner, a
Arm of contractors of Keokuk, their
bid of $1,275 being the lowest which
was submitted. Work on the bridge
will be started in the next few days
and it will he completed before spring.
The firm which was awarded the con
tract has superitnended the construc
tion of a majority of the bridges in
this country for some time past.
