The Civic league will hold its regu lar meeting on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 24, at three o!dock in the Y. W. C. A. building. The routine business wiil be transacted and Mr. O. B. Town© will speak on "A Civic View of Keokuk." The talk will be by way of suggestion of activities within the range of the women's organization. Mrs. J. J. On Friday evening Miss Clara Gert rude Ffy's advanced class in piano gave, a pupil's recital in the Y. W. C. A. auditorium which was attended -by a large company of friends of the clas3 and of music loving people of the «lty. With two exceptions the pupils who had part were froni out of town." The work of. every one of the young piahists showed- confidence, musical appreciation, understanding and technique. These, qualities are only attained by study—studty of the theory and history of 'music and by. analyzing each composition presented. Every one of the performers played,) with individuality and their work was of a high musical order for a pupil's recital. Miss Fry. has an'enviable rep utation as a teacher as well as a piano soloist. Some of the leading pianists of Chicago in gpeaklflg of her teaching qualities have given her highest praise. Montgom ery. Twenty members of the class were present. Miss Bertha R. Craig spoke of the garden city plan, which !has been worked out in some English 'cities and which is being advocated far this country in city planning. The English garden city provides for a grass plot and gardens both flowers and vegetables, thus eliminating in so far as possible apartment houses and tenament districts.
