Opera Star Praises Operators 9 Voices I 4 £r . - -’W Wwf * . < i MISS GRACE MOORE Telephone operators’ voices, she says, contribute to the pleasantness of our everyday world. Grace Moore, popular star of opera, radio, and screen, paid tribute to American telephone operators re* cently when she said: “There’s music in the speaking as well as the singing voice, and it is only after a long sojourn in for eign countries that one can appre ciate the music of the well modulated voices of our American telephone operators. Time was, years and years ago, when, particularly in our smaller communities, the voices which asked us: ’Number, please?* were not always so well trained in sound qualities, and occasionally they were shrill and high-pitched. But today we have become so used to the quiet, courteous tones of the telephone operators who serve us that we are apt to overlook the great contribution they make to the pleas antness of our everyday world which, conversationally, is so often telephonic.** • • ♦ I i gT . ..... —■ ..... i. a . a * ■ Pag* > .r—“
