TEMPER, TEMPERI Nairobi (ANP) Ndoki Ndul uku, 45-year-old Kamiba tribesman, fatally wounded his inherited wife Kalee Kituku, by shooting two arrows into her body, because she disobeyed him. He inherited the woman upon the death of her hus band, his brother. In court, he pleaded provocation saying the woman called him "stupid” and refused to prepare his food. The court disallowed the plea, and termed his retaliation "grossly excessive. You could have beaten her or sent her away, but certainly not murdered her.” Nduluku was sent enced to death. HE HAD A LOAD New York (ANP) Petroclus Pinman was arrested by police for being drunk. At the police station, he was told to stand on one leg. Raising himself to his full height, he sarcastically retoned: Look man, I can hardly stand on two legs, and you have the gall to ask me to stand on one.” Bloomington TV i "Where Service Goer With The i Sales" ; PA. 1-2445 ;2507 BLOOMINGTON AVE Olson Highway Shell Station Gas & Oil 613 ELWOOD AVE. Other golfers scheduled to play in the six-flight tournament in clude Clayton Moore, actor Roy Glenn, John Brady, Lucky Lager and Dr. Welles Forde. Kundla Happy Over Gopher Cage Wins, Team Play Minneapolis.—"lt’s nice to have three wins behind you, but it’s too early to get excited over our pros pects. We are going to have to wait until after we have played teams like Bradley (December 16) and Wichita (December 19) before we can more accurately evaluate What we have.” Thus does Coach John Kundla size up the current University of Minnesota basketball situation as the Gophers take time lout for fall quarter final examina tions. Asked “What have you liked in particular about the team so far?” Kundla replies "We have done a good rebounding job and have shown surprising poise for a young team.” Co-captain BUI Davis is the only senior among the top six players. Three Louis Hudson, Archie Clark, and Don Yates—are sophomores. He believes that this Minnesota team could have the oest balance of the five he has coached since returning to his alma mater. Matters of concern to Coach Kundla are (1) The large number of mistakes made while defeating Kansas State, Houston, and lowa State. (2) Lack of outside shoot ing. So far Terry Kunze, junior guard, is the only player who has shown any consistency in long range marksmanship. (3) Over-all shooting consistency. The Gophers have a .343 squad field goal shoot ing percentage. (4) Slow start in scoring by Bill Davis who is con- necting on field goals at a not-so good .280 clip. While the Gophers have held Kansas State, Houston, and lowa State to 66, 58, and 50 points, re spectively, Kundla is dissatisfied with their defensive play. He is stressing defense in practice this week. “If we can improve on de fense, we could be a substantially better team than last year’s,” says John. Kundla states that Louis Hud son, 6-5 sophomore forward from Greensboro, North Carolina, has already proven himself as a first rate college basketball player. Hud son is leading the Gophers in scor ing with a 17-point average, fol lowed by Mel Northway with 14 and Terry Kunze with 11. Ollie Johnson Moy Be Another Russell By Samuel J. Skinner, Jr. San Francisco, Calif. (ANP) — When the word basketball is spok en in Chis town, everyone thinks Of the Bill Russell era at the Univ ersity of San Francisco, when the Dons won the NCAA title two years in a row. It seems, however, that another era is in the making at USF. And again it is another Negro leading the fortunes of the Dons. His name is Ollie Johnson, a 6-8, 235-pound junior center Who won All-Northern California aclaim as a sophomore and who also broke Bill Russell's scoring record as a sophomore. Ollie Johnson was particularly Instrumental in the Dons’ 88-64 defeat of Nevada recently. For the Dons it was sweet revenge. It was this same Wolfpack team which upset the Dons 74-72, last season on Nevada’s home court. After the game fans left the pavilion singing the praises of Johnson and sharpshooter Bill Rob inson. Robinson finished the night as high point man for the game with 25 points. However, it was Johnson’s all-around ability that contribcted most to the Dons’ vic tory. This year’s USF team has Ne groes wearing the green and gold. They are guard Huey Thomas, a 6-0, 185-pound junior from Los An gles; forwards Ed Thomas, 6-4, 195-pound senior from Oakland, Calif., and Jake Crawford, 6-4, 190 pound senior from San Diego. Also centers W. C. Fortenberry, 6-10 170 pound sophomore from New Orleans, La., and Johnson 6-8, 225 pounds from Washington, D.C. Many basketball experts have called this year’s USF team one of its finest. And Coach Pete Pelalta’s big problem is finding a way to use his fine array of talent.
