Financial and Stock Markets. MORNING REPORT. New York, Sept. 30,11 a. m.—The stock market opened strong and in the early trade advanced slightly, but the market soon became weak and at 11 clock prices had fallen off %@l% per cent., Louisville & Nashville, Delaware, Lacka wanna & Western, Union Pacific and Erie pre ferred leading in the downward movement. AFTERNOON REPORT. Money 6% per cent. Prime mercantile paper 7@9 per cent. Bar silver, $1.13%. Sterling exchange steady; $4.81% long, $4.86 sight. BANK STATEMENT. Loans, decrease $6,291,600 Specie, decrease 2,595,500 Legal tenders, increase 589,800 Deposits, decrease 8,760,400 Circulation, increase 162,400 Reserve, increase 184,400 The banks now hold $2,137,425 less than legal requirements. Governments—Firm. State Securities —Neglected. Bondsßailroad bonds dull. Stocks—After 11 o'clock the market continued moderately active and prices- sold up %^i,% per cent. This was followed by a decline of %@l3i per cent., Louisville & Nashville, Delaware, Lackawanna & Western and Wabash, St Louis & Pacific preferred being most conspicuous. Stocks—Share speculation opened generally firm at a fractional advance from yesterday's closing prices. In the early trade there was . a further fractional rise, after which the market became weak and a decline of % to 2% per cent, took place, the latter for Louisville & Nashville. The other shares prominent in tbe decline were Delaware, Lackawanna & Western, !;' New Jersey Central, Wabash, St. Louis & Pacific preferred and Canada Southern. In the early part of the afternoon Delaware, Lackawanna & Western led a recovery of %@% per cent., after which an other break occurred and prices fell off 34'@2% per cent., the latter for Louisville & Nashville, bt. Paul & Manitoba, Allegheny Central, Denver & Rio Grande, Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul and Chicago & Northwestern were also - notably weak. In the late trade the downward movement was checked and' a rally ot 1% per cent, in Louisville & Nashville and Nashville, Chatta nooga & St. Louis, 1% par cent, in Philadelphia & Reading, 1% per cent, in Delaware, Lackawan na & Western, 1 per cent, in Allegheny Central and %@% per cent, in the remainder of the list occurred, but in the final dealings a decline of 3 per cent, took place in Canada Southern and the remainder of the list sold off )4(rt,2 per cent., the latter for Michigan Central and Memphis & Charleston, and the market closed weak at a de cline on the day's transactions of %£3% per cent., Canada Southern, Louisville & Nashville, Michigan Central and Union Pacific being most conspicuous therein.' The stocks most active and at the same time weakest were Louisville & Nashville and Delaware, Lackawanna & Western. All sorts of reports were floating about concern ing an attack upon Louisville & Nashville, but none can be traced to a reliable source. New York, Sept. 30. —Dry goods: Al though the movement has been of good propor tions during tho week the demand . has been very moderate. Deliveries on previous engage ments, and steady forwarding of many special ties, in connection with miscellaneous orders, in the aggregate, have taken a very fair to good quantity of goods. Dress goods, ladies' suitings and sackings, dress flannels, skirts and drawers, canton flannels, white and colored wool flannels, and prints have been in good distribution,but for other classes of goods the demand has been more moderate and confined to necessities of current requirements.
