Heart with a Pocket Knif<— The Any Arrested and now Held in Durance. " i Minneapolis was the scene of ono of those appalling and heart sickening child murders yesterday morning. Two small boys, who had for several months, HAD FKEQUKNT QUABEELS, and at times lights, came in contact at about 9 o'clock yesterday morning at the corner of Third street and Fifteenth avenue southeast. Albert Weller Terwilli per, a boy aged ten years, and Swen Torf steu, aged eleven, were the parties. Swen proposed to Albert to fight, and in a mo ment they were at it. The younger boy, and somewhat the smaller, by some means got the better of his antagonist, who drew a pocket knifo and . STABBED THE LITTLE FELLOW in the breast in the region of the heart. Swen Torfsten, seeing what he had done, lied to his home near by, while poor Albert sunk HELPLESS IN THE STREET. lie was soon after taken up and re moved to a neighboring saloon, where Dr. Hewson was called and surgical treatment given. The boy died shortly after how ever. THE COBONEB was promptly notified and at onco drove to the scene. He was told that the boy had fallen from a sleigh and had received the wound from falling upon a nail, but upon examining the na ture of the cut, he discovered that it was accomplished with A BHABP INSTBUMENT, and not by a nail. He was at onca appre heni ivo of foul play, and a searching in ; -lion wa.s made, resulting in giving tho above particulars. A- soon as ho was in possession of a few poiulurs, the coroner went directly to the house of Simon Terwelliger, No. 212 ir avenue. He found at home tho parents and a number of the brothers and sisters of the dead boy, who were NKAKLY DISTEACTED WIIH GBIEF t learning tho intelligence of the boy's terrible death. Officers Burli and Schroeder, were in the meantime searching the vicinity for tha boy who committed the horrible deed. 'They found three Swedes named C. P. Larson, John Anderson and Andrew John son, who said they had seen three boys on the sidewalk in front of the house fight ing. One boy was down, while another was shaking and choking him. Finally the large boy let go of the small er, who regained his feet and started to cross the street, but fell in the middle of the street. The other two boys ran to his side and endeavored to assist him, but ap parently the little fellow coald not walk. They then let go of him and ran away. The officers finally found a small boy who said he had been told that Swen Torf sten had been fighting with the dead boy, and went with the officers to a house diagonally opposite that of the parents of the deceased, and POINTED OUT THE GUILTY BOY. The officers took him to the coroner who asked him if he struck the boy with a knife. He said he did not, although he frankly acknowledged the fight. He said he had left hi 3 knife at home. But upon closer questioning said he kad his knife in his pocket and it might have cut Albert in falling upon him. The guilty boy's father, at this juncture, pointed out a hole in the boy's coat pocket, on which he then said he had CABBIED TJIE*KNIFE OPEN. The character of the wound, howev er, plainly indicated that it could not have been made in such a manner, and the coroner took the boy to his home to get the knife. From behintl some books on a shelf, the boy pro duced the fatal knife, which was KEEN AS A BAZOK. After some further questioning, the cor oner being thoroughly convinced ef the boy's gnilt, ordered the officers to take him into custody. He was thence taken to the city lock-up, where he is being held awaiting further developments. The boy speaks very little English, and all conversation is consequently conducted through a Swede interpreter. The deceased, from all reports, was an unusually BBIGHT LITTLE FELLOW, and much liked by his schoolmates gener ally. His parents are poor. There are five children in the family, ranging thirteen years down to five. The mother of the boy states that he was on his way to school when murdered. Dr. Hewson. says the boy made an effort to speak while in the saloon, but only had the strength to simply move b.13 lips. Yesterday a post mortem examination was held upon the remains, but elicted no new facts. The coronor's inquest will occur on Fri day evening. THE COUKTS. District Court.
