THE INTER MOUNTAIN'S ANACONDA DEPARTMENTI PUPILS HOPE TO10 KEEP PROFESSOR HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARS CIRCULATE PETITION FOR RE-ELECTION OF THE LANGUAGE TEACHER. GRADUATES SAY SOME KIND WORDS ABOUT HIM Strong Sentiment Shown in Favor of Re taining the Services of This Well Known, Kindly Disposed and Polished Gentleman-He Is the Master of Many Languages-Will Probably Get Place. I.i'EIAL. TO INTItR MioUNT.AI1N.J Anaconda, May 23.--If the sentiment of the peolple of Anaconda means anythinig, Prof. Redeker, teacher of languages in the High School, will retain his position. It will he remembered that all the old faculty of the High School was discharged at the last meeting of the boa:rd, with the cxception of Prof. Redeker, who, however, at the suggestion of Prof. Koontz was also to be removed. This did not seem to Ie the opinion of all the members of the board, however, and the matter was laid over. Since that time there has bcin an tui usually strong sentiment shown by all classes for the retention of the professor, who is a graduate of a f;inimts G(;erman university, a linguist of remarkable ability and a scholarly awil polished gentlmnan. lie w:as for sonic time teacher in languages in the Ilclena liigh School. and is rtecg nized amoang the best educators of the state an a compnletent and etlicient tc;tcher. Sulperintendent Koontz stated that Prof. Redleker was lacking in his discipline and was severe with the High School pu pils. One yotung girl in particular whom it was stated the professor struck, str.nu ously denies the statement. Now conmes a petition signed by the pupils of the Iligh School almost unani mnously asking for the retention of the old gentleman, whom they all love, and in whose scholarship they have an abiding confidence, stating that he showed no se verity to any of theim. MIlembers of the graduating class have also signeid the pe tition and strenuously deny that there has been any severity shown them by the pro fessor. Rarely has anything of the kind at tracted such attention; business min and men of all classes joining in their pro test at the recommendation of superintend ent that the professor lie discharged. It is not known whether the matter will come up at the meeting tomorrow evening, but it is not improlbable that in spite of the recommendation of the superintendent, Prof. Redeker will be retained on the staff. COUNTY ATTORNEY ASKS RELEASE OF PRISONER Not Sufficient Evidence Against Henry Jackley to Warrant Continuing the Prosecution. rsl'ECIAI. TO INTEIR MoUtNTAIN Anaconda, May 23.-In the district court yesterday afternoon County Attor ney l)uify made a motion asking for leave not to file an information against Henry Jacklcy who was arrested several days ago, charged with having stolen $8 from the person of John Gallagher. Jackel was given a hearing in the po lice court and was bound over to the dis trict court for trial in the sumn of $5oo. County Attorney Duffy was not pres ent at the time and when his attention was called to the matter, he at once be gan an investigation. After looking up the facts in the case he decided that the evidence against Jackley was not of sufficient weight to warrant a continuance of the prosecution and doing so would be putting the county to a needless expense. So he made the motion asking for the release of Jacklcy who has been confined in the county jail. Retail Liquor Dealers.
